I think that more armies need a good low strength (e.g. 2) , low ap (e.g 3) weapon. If it is heavy, then give it a lot of shots, if it is an assault or rapid fire, give 4 or more shots to some "basic" squad. This gives more armies a method for dealing with SM eqs without resorting to anti-tank weaponry firing en-masse.

The thing that you have to remember is that the 3+ save is negated by enough shots. I play mechanized guard and let me assure you that 9 slugs hucked down field put a good amount of hurt on the power armored punks. On the flip side, I think that the statistics may come out close if you need a big number to wound versus a 1/3 chance in the marine failing his save. But I just played 3 hours of Beethoven, so my logical brain is not to be trusted.

Lets do a comparison, the vaunted multilaser at bs3 = .42 dead marines in a shooting phase. vs three shots of str 2 ap3 = .25 dead marines.

Don't know about you but I think I would take the multi-laser.
