I am planning a 28mm Necron titan..., I know, I know... there is the Abattoir and AE Orb, but I want a 'walker', Warlord sized! Think of a Sphinx laid down as in Egypt, up with a great pryamid upon its back. Then imagine the unlucky army who first sees this massive brute come to life, arise on all fours, charged claws extended, whips cracking! I thought that I could post a quick sketch of my Sphinx titan idea.

What do you think, and what should the top shootie be? And most importantly, should I build this monster or not?

Thank you

Will

The answer is ALWAYS build, build, build. I love the idea.

If I were you (and GW) I would not put any obvious guns on it. Crystals mounted in the walls and a giant one on top should count at guns. That's always been my real problem with the Monolith. Go for smooth lines like a Borg or Federation ship. Necrons should be so advanced they don't need giant drainpipe like guns.

I hope you do it.

While I think your designs are nifty, I'm not keen on the idea of titans for Necrons (or Tau for that matter). Not every race needs to have anthropomorphic walkers. I'm perfectly happy with the Tau having massive flyers instead of titans, and Necrons having ominous floating haunted houses monuments. Giving titans to Necrons would in a sense put them on the level of humans, eldar, and orks, when they're really so far beyond. IIRC the designers' notes in White Dwarf described the Necrons and their C'tan gods as Lovecraftian, so I think steering clear of anything that looks like conventional 40K technology (i.e giant robots) would be more in keeping with the Necron aesthetic.

That said, I completely agree with Kyoto-san, in that what ever you do, leave off the guns. Crystals and orbs say "this weapon is extra-alieny" way more than gun barrels.

If you really really really want to do a giant scary robot thing, why not take it in the direction of the Tomb Spyders? All the Necrons' big stuff hovers, so instead of a walker, how about something like a giant Tomb Spyder/Matrix Sentinel hybrid machine?

I kinda agree with NecRon. Something about a giant necron walker seems a little out of place. I really can't give an adequate alternative simply because the only thing that I could see necrons taking against titans is either hordes of smaller units like warriors or Scarab Swarms or, a massive airstrike from a tomb ship of some sort. Or course the huge awe inspiring floating temple shaped like a metallic sphinx isn't out of the question i'd think.

Either way if its something you absolutely want to make, I can't dissuade you simply on the principle that you can build whatever you want if you think it looks good (and it would probably be quite cool either way).

Yeah, I guess I am the same. a floating pyramid fortress would feel much more 'Necron' to me than any sort of walker. Basic troops asside, Necrons are so into floating/hover technology that having something walking seems like a step back.

Go with your idea wjadams2000. It sound much better than a floating pyramid or spider. It just does not so good on 2 legs. Looks better on 4.

2 legs bad 4 Legs good.

Your picture is really good. How about just a large robotix spinx??

We are talking about a race that conforms to the wish of giant stargods, who take forms that fulfill their desires. A Sphinx, source of engima and mystery, raising out of the ground and killing things, sounds totally like the Deceiver's style. And who says it can't fold its arms in and fly away afterwards?

When you're a God, you do God things. And God things are always done with style.

I say go for it. I like the drawings, by the way. Although, I agree with Kid Kyoto. Necrons don't really need huge gun bays. Just have crystals. They'll look cooler, I think.

Ya know, I remember when you weren't chaotic unless you had at least 3 eyes, some kind of grotsque extra limb, and your blood was at least boiling acid. Apparently all need these days to be chaos is some skulls and an arrow on your forhead. - Kaile Bloodhammer

Okies,

First: I love this idea (The narrative concept sketch too), I would use imagery like the Tomb Kings Ushabti though for its physical design. Like so:

The head you designed looks awesome but to bring it more in line with Necron anatomy it should sit in front of the shoulders not on top.

If the Pyramid sits on the middle of its Back it would have to run around on all fours, I suggest having it sit atop its shoulders like the fortress on an Emperator Titan so it can be bipedal like most upright Necrons. As this design is moving away from their hover designs which are usually horizontal platforms. As all ground based Necrons stand upright this again brings it closer to Necron anatomy.

Here is a couple examples I did in paint:

At any rate I think it's an awesome idea and you should go for it in any form you wish, just giving you some further options to consider before you start a mammoth project like this.

Good luck keep us posted
