Old boardgame. Rumor on WS is it's coming back w/ Nemesis...so players can have rules for running a campaign. Rumor is it's four pages of rules though...so I can't imagine alot of depth. If you want the old rules, here you go: http://www.mindspring.com/~jloasrah/mesetext.htm

"Mighty Empires, the first Warhammer Expansion, enables you to fight sweeping campaigns throughout the Warhammer World. The flexible tile-based map system ensures that no two campaigns need be the same. The plastic map tiles are extremely versatile and with the exception of the mountain tiles all the tiles are double-sided. This gives a staggering 90 tile options per kit. also included is a full rulebook on how to run and play Mighty Empires campaigns."

Old boardgame. Actually I believe Malfred is correct in that it is a new expansion for WHFB campaigns that simply uses the old name. And as for the old game, you can download the rules legally direct from GW: http://www.specialist-games.com/assets/MightyEmpirescol.pdf

Yeah, it's GW bringing out their old boardgame and attaching it to the new Fantasy campaign (Or as a tie in, however you want to view it). http://cgi.ebay.com/MIGHTY-EMPIRES-GAMES-WORKSHOP-BOARDGAME-VERY-GOOD_W0QQitemZ110131374528QQihZ001QQcategoryZ31400QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem They still have some of the old miniatures for it in archive. I believe you can still find a few castles, ships, etc there. You can also Ebay some of the old stuff...single sprues, etc. Kind of like the Generals Comp. that showed the guy making 3d hex terrain for campaign...except it's already done for you. Only 4 pages worth of rules though....doesn't mean it will be "bad"...as with campaigns in my experience simplicity is a virtue. 4 pages though....

Yeah, it's GW bringing out their old boardgame and attaching it to the new Fantasy campaign Or it's a total reworking using the old name and tiles. Until we see the rules, no one can say for sure.

Until we see the rules, no one can say for sure. Heh, I would hope they would rework the rules...the game is older then some of the posters here. If I recall correctly, the rules on the specialist site refer to Warmaster. The rules I linked refer to the original tie in...and are legal, as stated on WS from the author...so no harm in downloading them. They had a blurb on the WS forums concerning the rules....didn't sound a great deal different then the Lustria campaign rules...which isn't half bad. Different phases, each mine tile gives you cash...etc.

I hear that the book is more akin to a pamphlet, which is sad. I like the old system.
Supposedly there is going to be support and supplemental stuff in the WD for it. We will have to wait and see. I like the tiles, but give me some good campaign rules!!

Considering how stupid the old game was, it's actually good news that they kept only the name. Some people speak of Mighty Empire but how many actually played a game? Dice rolling, that's all. Plenty of terrain table, randomness at every corner. If you were lucky you found treasures and cities awaiting your command, if you were unlucky your troops wandered in swamps or were slaughtered by a dragon.
The only good point was that the link between ME and WFB was obvious.
Sure, game material was ok, but rule-wise I won't cry if they redo the whole thing. The only question is - can they do worse?

I played this game a long time ago. If i were to compair it to something, I 'd say Axis and Allies, with WFB. Its one of those games that played like 20 minute turns, and you had to find out what the map was about when you explored it. eventually, the players would connect, and your armies would fight over things like hidden treasure, Dragons, citys, towns, and farm villes etc. This game was an additional resource for WFB, and it could as well be combined with WF RPG if you wanted to use an established map. Awhile ago, the products all were additional, or could be played seperate, but they as well had rules that you could use all of these products in conjunction. Those were some good times, alright. Anymore, you do things like this on a computer. " Damn Kids..."

Think of it this way. Do you need 80 pages to flesh out a campaign aid? Is there a reason to add yet more repeated and regurgitated fluff in every publication that GW makes just to add a couple extra bucks to the price? Unless the flavor is original writing, I dont see the point in its addition for the sake of fluff you can get from any other source. To me (and I dont play WHFB) this is nothing but a good thing to have a slim pamphlet of rules for the campaign addition for WHFB. Less to flip through. Concise and to the point. But then again, I havent seen the rules for this either, its just an assumption based on what I would like to see.

We used the original ME as the basis of many WFB campaigns. That is what I plan on doing with the new set. If we do not like the new campaign rules we can always change them or use the old ones.
Hopefully, the release of ME will be the thing to really get me back into WFB.

I dunno. It says "full rulebook" in the little write-up there. How big does it have to be to qualify for full rulebook status?

God damned internet! I think that something should be 4 or perhaps 8 pages to qualify as a "full rulebook." Not including the cover, of course.

Played it numerous times, and every time we kept tweaking it. A couple of big store run campaigns, then after that a big group of friends ran one on the internet using it to set up WHFB games. We had plenty of great times playing it or using it for the basis of other campaigns. Some of us actually play the games we buy

Thread was around long enough I forgot the pic was posted The best thing about the old system was the instant roll off. You could fight the battle if you wanted, but in some circumstances it was better to just roll on the chart. If people hadn't completed games by the end of the turn they were just rolled for, so it kept things moving. There were some big imbalances, but it was overall a quite good system to gt us playing WHFB.
