I played a 2000 point match the other day against a Chaos army, and I think my opponent brought significantly more than 2000 points to the table. However, he was inexperienced at the game and I don't know the Chaos list that well, so I didn't make an issue of it.

I was hoping that someone with access to the Hordes of Chaos book could tell me how many points (roughly) my opponent's army was. I don't know what the magic items were, but here's the rough list:

Chaos Lord of Tzeentch, Level 4 Sorceror, on a Chaos Dragon

Level 2 Nurgle Sorceror, Power Familiar

Hero of Slaanesh

15 Chosen Chaos Warriors of Slaanesh, Shields

15 Chosen Chaos Warriors of Khorne, Shields

6 Undivided Chosen Chaos Knights

15 Marauders, Light Armor and Shield

5 Chaos Hounds

5 Chaos Hounds

5 Marauder Horsmen, Throwing Axes

Chaos Chariot of Slaanesh

Hellcannon

Thanks in advance to anyone who can tell me the points value of this army.

Whith all the options you´ve listed.

Also Illegal because of 2 chosen warrior units and multiple marks without an undivided general.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

Yep, your opponent needs to have someone help him write his army list.

You are allowed one unit of Chosen Chaos Warriors (Chaos Army book, p. 60, warriors entry). You are allowed one unit of Chosen Chaos Knights (Chaos Army book, p.61, knights entry).

If your general has the mark of a specific Chaos power, then that is the only mark you can have in your army, and all other units must have that mark or the mark of Chaos Undivided. In this case, His lord is Tzeench-marked, so he cannot have Nurgle-, Khorne-, or Slaanesh-marked units in the army.
If your general has the mark of Chaos undivided, then you may mix marks, but: in order to take a character with a mark, you must include a unit with that mark. So since he's got a chariot of Slaanesh, he may take a hero of Slaanesh; but he may not take the Sorcerer of Nurgle because he does not have any nurgle-marked units. Chaos Army book, p.55, under 'The Chaos General'.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Next time, if you can, I'd ask some neutral party to add up the points on his army list real fast before the game.

Bring a calculator. I've met players like this. Its funny they never go under in points, its always over. I played a 2K game, the other guy had about 2200 points on his list with all his math "errors".

Thanks for the answers, guys. I think that the best course of action would be to tell him that his army was illegal, but only mention the issues with taking too many marks and chosen. That at least can be attributed to lack of familiarity with the army book, while the points issue is rather obviously due to cheating.

Hopefully, he'll take the hint and correct his point values too and I won't have to confront him. If it persists, then maybe I'll have a third party investigate our lists before the game.

Oh, and I did beat him, despite the points difference.
