Hi all,

I am preparing a 1500 list for a RTT tournament here in Madrid on June 30th.

I am somewhat bored of the SM usual builds... jumpack chappy with assault marines... double assault cannons termies squads.. fear a fury libby....tornados, etc....

So I decided to try a different approach... something a little more fluffy (although less competitive)... and a fully mech ultramarines force is my answer...

HQ

- captain, power weapon, plasma pistol, iron halo, termi honours

- command squad, vet sgt with power weapon, plasma pistol, apothecary, standar bearer, 2 melta gun marines, 4 bolter marines

-rinho transport for captain & command squad, extra armour, dozer blade, smoke, and hunter killer missile

Troops

- Tactical Squad Alfa, vet sgt with power fist an bolt pistol, plasma gun marine and 4 bolter marines. Razorback (HB) with extra armour, dozer blade and smoke

- Tactical Squad Beta, same as above

- Tactical Squad Gamma, same as above

Heavy Support

- Whirlwind

- Predator Annihilator with HB sponsons and extra armour, storm bolter and smoke

- Vindicator, extra armour and smoke

I know the body count it's to low. Also the number of scoring units isn't high... just hope that not many enemies will be ready to deal with 7 tanks at the same time.....every AT round fired at the rinho or the razorbacks means an AT round less shoot at the vindi or the predator... that are the tanks that should be winning the battle for me

Do you think that strategy will work?... sugestions and advice will be welcome...

Well, I wouldn't say this list is the bees-knees but I think its far more competetive than you might think. But if we all thought the same way and played the same way it would be pretty boring eh? hehe

If this was my list then I'd most likely make the following changes.
Drop all of the dozer blades, pintle storm bolters and hunker killers so that you get enough points to upgrade your razorbacks to have lascannons instead of heavy bolters.

(This would make them more threatening and draw more fire away from your Vindicators and Predators as a Razorback with twin lascannon full of marines is just as threatening as a Tank with lotsa firepower in my book)

If your willing to drop something then I would strongly recommend taking a Dreadnought with twin lascannon, close combat arm, underslung storm bolter and extra armour all for 130pts. They are hard to kill and would give you a massive punch if you got into a good position. In my 2000pt battles I always take 2 with this setup and sometimes upgrade the close combat arm to a missile launcher if I'm low on weapon firepower and high on combat attacking troops.

Hope this gives you a few idea's, otherwise your list is very good as it stands.

well... thanks for the advice hellsguardian.... I can“t switch the razorbacks to TL-LC cause I don't have those turrets ( and in this torunament you are not allowed to proxy)

...but getting rid of the standar bearer, dozer blades and the like i can afford TL-LC dready, so I will give it a try....

with that change i now have 4 "front run" tanks to advance against objetive while they cover 2 battle tanks and 1 battle walker, all that covered by the fire of a rearguad tank firng indirectly from cover

After some testing of the above list I decided to make some changes...

On the first hand the command squad half shotty half choppy is no good.... Swichted it to a full compliment of close combat specialist... pw vet sarge, honoured veteran, and a chappy for flavor...... points for chappy were collected by removing the honours and pfist of the tactical squad sarges...

In addition, as that squad was now dedicated to hth, the rhino was no longer an option for them, so i exchanged it for a Land Raider Crusader (the ultimate assault platform) The points for this monster came from removing the dreaddy and the whirlwind..

so the new list looks like this:

HQ

- captain, power weapon, plasma pistol, iron halo, termi honours
- chappy, crozious, rosarius, bolp pistol, termi honours
- command squad, vet sgt with power weapon, bolt pistol, veteran, 2 melta gun marines, 2 bolt pistol and chainaxe marines

Troops

- Tactical Squad Alfa, bolt pistol and chainaxe sarge, plasma gun marine and 4 bolter marines. Razorback (TL-LC) with extra armour and smoke

- Tactical Squad Beta, same as above but with TL-HB Razorback

- Tactical Squad Gamma, same as above but with TL-HB Razorback

Heavy Support

- Predator Annihilator with HB sponsons and extra armour and smoke

- Vindicator, extra armour and smoke

- Land Raider Crusader, smoke.

Hope the fire margnet effect of the crusader will compensate me for for the whirlwind firepower lost...
