The Mega-battle looks pretty darn good, and I absolutely love the inclusion of the Alien toy into the army: It looks perfect!

I find your actual paint scheme rather bland (although that's generally what you get with dipping, and it looks like that's the route you took). Also, the basing scheme you've chosen kind of makes the models look 'unfinished' from a distance.

Still, the sheer number of finished models is impressive and overall it looks like a fearsome army when amassed together like that. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. Do you have a link to more pictures of your fleet and/or the mega-battle? I'd like to see them.

Although not officially dipped. I did use a heavy wash of brown ink and dry-brushing. The intent being to create an organic appearance (I like to call it the cockroach effect). I have thought about touching up the bases, but have never gotten around to it.

Our first mega-battle actually got a short article in White Dwarf. I don't remember the issue number, but it was the one that introduced the Tomb Kings army. I painted 5,000 pts of Tyranids in about 6 weeks for that battle (majority of the smaller models in the pictures above). I added the Harridan and the Scythed Carcharodon (alien toy) for later battles.

We ran several battles with the central theme being the battle for Norcross III. The last battle we did (our store moved to a smaller location) was around 98,000 pts total and 20 players.

If you are interested in seeing more pictures I will try and dig some more up.

Solid swarm you've got, I really like the look of all those white scytals amongst the more subdued carapace / skin colors. Which, by the way, I think works well as the organic look you were after, hit the cockroach on the head, IMHO

The alien titan is very nice too, and the harridan is clearly also a beast and a half. Nice on the WD appearance, and impressive mega-battle that last one was! The largest mega we got together at my store was about 26,000 pts and 12 players ...

We'll have to try harder I suppose

The key is a good kitchen timer. We played 6 full turns in all of our mega-battles by limiting the time allowed for each phase to no more than 20 minutes. If you didn't finish in the alloted time the game proceeded and you were out of luck.

BTW, it's a little hard to tell in the photos, but the green areas of each Tyranid is finshed with semi-gloss clear and the carapace areas are done in gloss. This gives a nice shiny shell appearance on the table.

WOW that is a pretty solid idea, really encourages speed play. One mega we played the armored company commander took longer to maneuver and choose his targets than our entire evil side took for our turn ... and this was about 14,000 points on a 6x4 table, so his pie plates were gonna hit something!

Our first game was based on an idea I came up with as a 40K campaign being run in the store was winding down. The campaign was roughly a free-for-all of almost all armies on the planet of Norcross III. The only army not represented in the campaign were Tyranids.

Therefore, we decided the first battle would be Tyranids vs all other armies. The Tyranids had double the number of points the opposing forces had and we played a last stand scenario. There were about 50,000 pts total in our first game and the game ended in a draw with Tyranids being slightly ahead by about 200 pts. However the Tyranids had the advantage of one of the smaller IG armies on the opposing side were actually Genestealer Cult that were revealed on Turn 2.
