The following thread doesn’t seem to have gotten a lot of replies, so I expect a number of folks have missed it.

http://warhammer.org.uk/PhP/viewtopic.php?t=29675

It has been confirmed that Matt L was not ripped off, and there is no asterisk beside the name of Robert Felix, the awarded and proper Warhammer Overall champion for <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Las Vegas</st1:place></st1:city>.

The rules pack stated clearly that the (single) player who had the most Player’s Choice votes would get a flat 5pt bonus to his Overall score.  The software was configured slightly wrong, and instead added points (capped at 5) to the total score of EVERY player who got PC votes.  These points were not counted towards the awards, thankfully.  The points differentials were such that when the points are subtracted the top ten (at least) stay almost the same as published- just Matt drops to 3rd, and Robert and Johan go 1st and 2nd.

The top ten were posted originally as:

Player Name <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Battle</st1:place></st1:city> Sports Painting Fav Opp Players Choice Penalty Overall Final

Lewandowski, Matt 83 46 35 2 12 0 171 1
Felix, Robert 87 46 35 0 2 0 170 2
Thulin, Johan 84 44 35 2 2 0 167 3
Vigil, Elliott 90 38 30 1 6 0 164 4
Walker, Timothy 64 53 35 1 23 0 158 5
Gallegos, Brandon 87 46 20 2 1 0 156 6
Braun, Jordan 87 38 30 0 0 0 155 7
Wiatt, Todd 77 46 25 2 2 0 152 8
Swensrud, Gregory 74 46 25 1 7 0 151 9
Holliday, Janner 77 46 20 0 0 0 143 10

With the PC votes subtracted out, they’re properly:

Player Name <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Battle</st1:city></st1:place> Sports Painting Fav Opp Players Choice Penalty Overall Final

Felix, Robert 87 46 35 0 2 0 168 2
Thulin, Johan 84 44 35 2 2 0 165 3
Lewandowski, Matt 83 46 35 2 12 0 159 1
Vigil, Elliott 90 38 30 1 6 0 158 4
Walker, Timothy 64 53 35 1 23 0 158 5
Gallegos, Brandon 87 46 20 2 1 0 155 6
Braun, Jordan 87 38 30 0 0 0 155 7
Wiatt, Todd 77 46 25 2 2 0 150 8
Swensrud, Gregory 74 46 25 1 7 0 144 9
Holliday, Janner 77 46 20 0 0 0 143 10

Congratulations to all of the above, and particularly to Rob Felix.  If anyone hasn't seen his battle report, it's here:

Good for Mr. Felix.

So GW displayed slightly less incompetence than originally thought. But lets not forget that yet again they couldn't run an event smoothly.

Mann,

I don't think you've calculated the numbers correctly. Please double check as this is what I come up with based off what Jim P posted. I don't see how GW screwed up (other than printing out a sheet with an extra score thrown in that shouldn't)  as the order doesn't change.

Hi everyone,

Yep, we made some mistakes. Different ones to those we made in Atlanta, but still mistakes.

Scoring-wise we made the mistakes described above in Mannahnin's post, plus one or two others. These same system errors occured across the board, primarily affecting the upper standings in the 40K tournament and are being dealt with right now.

Will we make these same mistakes in the future? I really hope not, but these things cannot be predicted.

The thing that really impressed me about the Las Vegas GT was the level of excitement, enthusiasm, and positive approach to friendly competitive hobbying that was displayed at the Cashman Center over the three-day event. My hat is off to all the participants, gamers and staff alike, for making this event a fun place to be and keeping the spirit of the hobby alive!

Cheers

All of the guys i know from California that went did nothing but rave about how much fun they had and how they cant wait to go back.

Bob, the fantasy winner, is a local to my old gaming group, and a great guy. I was really happy to see him win. He is a superb general, awesome painter and just a nice person.

Dave, I'm sure that you guys will correct your mistakes and hopefully the GT's will keep going as that is one of the main advantages GW has over some of the upstart companies out there. They can put on these big events and draw enough people to make them as much fun as i have been hearing they have been.

Mauleed, that's a little harsh. So far, everyone who's attended has raved about how much fun they had. Aside from a few glitches calculating the scoring, how did the event not run smoothly?

Smoothly means without errors. Not to be pedantic about it, but a cheese grater would be smooth if it didn't have all those sharp rasps on it.

Regardless, as you say Ozy, its good to see so much enthusiasm and turn-out for a GW event.

His comment just seemed too harsh for what really are small errors (the right guy got the overall trophy when all was said and done). Overall, I would say that the GT was a success and I didn't hear any problems of the sort we heard after the Atlanta GT.

I thought about attending, but my armies aren't finished painting wise and I had a business trip, but I think I'll make the trip next year if I can.

There have been comments on some other issues. The terrain particularly, and some of the missions as well.

There are some terrain comments in the below thread, and some overall event notes. Just ignore the after-action dispute between a couple of players.

http://warhammer.org.uk/PhP/viewtopic.php?t=29624&start=0

A couple of tidbits about the 40k missions are in the below thread; though Blackmoor doesn't whine about them, at least two of them seem pretty whacked.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/Forums/tabid/56/forumid/17/postid/168713/view/topic/Default.aspx

And the 40k scoring seems to have been a bit trickier to sort out than the WH scoring, such that it hasn't been able to be posted yet.

All the comments on the organizers and the event as a whole have been very positive, however, and it sounds like they're very interested in improving on the mistakes. I heard that a number of 40k players complained about the scanty terrain on day 1 and they took action to improve matters by raiding unused tables for terrain. That's a good thing.

That's all fine and good, but... COME ON!  Do we really need this kind of conflict in our game?  I mean, there are huge disputes in the professional sports over missed calls and stuff, but we're all regular joes with regular jobs playing a tournament for fun, right?  (I'm guessing we're all regular joes, I know Robin Williams plays 40K but I doubt he enters GTs).  And while ESPN2 did televise Magic tournaments for awhile (anyone remember how ridiculous those were, with TWO commentators and a screen pen to circle cards live?) I don't see 40K as being nearly as competitive.

So what happens, does the winner go home with a trophy just to have GW call him and tell him to mail it back to them?

Even the Super Bowl has glitches...refs not getting the calls right, TV coverage not perfect, Pete Rozelle and Paul Tagliabue getting into a fight about blue cheese and ranch dressing being better for buffalo wings....

Mauleed seems to only wish doom and gloom on GW. I guess its a good thing he no longer participates and plays Warmachine. I wish him luck when he wins one of their national events.

Now to steer this thread back to something positive, Congratulations Rob! I was at the Vegas GT and saw Rob's beautifully painted army and got to see him win some games. Rob definitely deserved the win.

I also want to thank Dave Taylor and his crew for putting on a great event.
I went to Adepticon this year and had an amazing time. It definitely set the bar high for events to match. The Vegas GT was a pleasent suprise. I guess seeing Jeff Chua on staff at the Vegas GT should have been a tip off.

Sylvania seems strong, but the lists posted in his battle report all seem kinda ... weak.

Have the power lists in fantasy changed that much?  I mean, Khemri in the top armies.  KHEMRI.  And more than one at that.

Hellfury, Hobbs made a comment about another poster, but you definitely took this thread to the next level. Cool it. Hobbs & Darrian, there's no need for you to be taking potshots at other posters either.
