My copy of Tide of Iron arrived. Overall the components are impressive. The box literally weighs ten pounds! The box is the same as Twilight Imperium III. There are six sheets of markers and terrain hexes that are nice and thick. The boards are even thicker 8" 1/2 x 11" pieces with 4x5 hexes on them. I worry about the durability of the edges if they get knocked around because they are not covered in any way but otherwise they should hold up well. The cards are of good quality.

Most folks here will probably be interested in the minis. They are of poor quality for anyone who does minis. For cheap plastic playing pieces they are very well done. They are composed of the same odd plastic as TIIII -- It is soft and bendy but slightly stiff and grainy when bent or cut. The infantry are about 15mm and look very good although the US mortar units had a fair amount of flash on them. The vehicles are a mixed bag. The trucks and half tracks are ok but all of my German halftracks are distorted. The tanks look generally like Shermans, MKIVs, and Tigers but only barely. The dimensions are all off and the MKIV is actually larger than the Tiger. The tanks are roughly 10mm in size.

The good news is, for those who care about the look of the minis, you can use either the Wordl Tank Museum or Dragon 12mm vehicles and they will look pretty good with the ToI infantry.

FFG has additional scenarios, a scenario design program, WTM minis, and other info on the ToI website. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/tideofiron.html

I have been waiting for this game for ever. I was pretty mad when they kept pushing the date back. Glad to hear it out now. Guess I will be heading down to the local shop to see about ordering it. Thanks for the low down

My FLGS has a pre-release copy and I played a game.

In my opinion, the game pieces are not up to par with the Euro games. The terrain tiles are warping after a few weeks of play. The plastic models seem to be prone to breaking if the players keep inserting and removing them from the bases as they need to according to the rules.

Despite the frailty of the game pieces I thought the rules are quite good. Some missions favors the allies and some favors the axis but the multitude of missions really brings out the excitment of engagements.
