your dark riders run 127 pts with crossbows stagger you scrolls and give the darkstar to the lvl 1, that way you kan give all the pool dice to the lvl2 combine your 2 CoK units to make a big one and use the extra points to give them the warbanner your shade unit is kinda big, it makes it a bit of a point sink' those are just some thoughts, i actually run my shade 8 man and it goes over okay, but sometimes i regret paying so much for them on the plus side i love your lord and the army is very mobile, you might consider using some cold one chariots to back up the crossbows

Thanks for the heads up ion the dark riders. I was going off the warriors cost. My bad. As to the shades... They are their to harrass and attack war machines... Would 6 be enough? Would harpies be better? I really hate the ld6 of the harpies. I also like the rbx on them. They can be a minor threat from turn 1. If I drop a pair of shades then I will have the points for the dark riders and a few other toys and things... ender502

I agree that 5 CoK is not enough, and a single unit of 10 is probably too many (stupidity will wreck you just when you need them most, I promise). A chariot is a good idea.

As to the knights. I could buy 6 and then add the noble. That gives me a pretty nasty 7. The question in my mind is, barring the reapers, should I forget about the slow units and go all mounted? Try and scrape together the points for another large unit of cold ones but without a noble? I have the models. It is only a question of viability. I think I will probably drop the shades down to 6. i need the few points it saves me for the dark riders. ender502

chariots are handy, ive failed Ld10 stupidity check before, it made me sad. could throw in some more CoKs, say 5 + your noble, 6 wt war banner or banner of slaughter would counter balence that. BTs are always a good option, you can fit two more if you like. And beware of stupidity the more points you sink into it the more you have doing nothing for a turn when you fail, and the more tests you have to take the more you will fail.

Chariots are handy, but 1) they suffer from stupidity and 2) they can't keep up with your cav. But setting up a front charge from the chariot and a simultaneous flank charge from Dark Riders is a classic. There is a counter-intuitive argument that if you have stupid units, you should take more of them. The reasoning is: a stupid unit will probably fail its stupidity test at least once during a game. (And we all know that it will fail at the worst possible time.) But the chance of all your stupid units failing at the same time is far lower. So you could take another unit of CoK and double your chances of having one unit pass its test at a critical moment. Sometimes I run a 4-chariot army. The chariots work in pairs with blocks of warriors. I have never (yet) had a situation where a block charged without at least one chariot being able to support it. Right now your army is pretty fast, which means your magic users are going to be on their own, and several Dark Magic spells are pretty short ranged. Consider giving one of your sorceresses the cloak that lets her scout, stick her with the shades, and start the game in a wood near the enemy's deployment zone (insert evil laughter here). Or give them steeds so they can keep up with the rest of the army. Also consider making your Lvl 1 a Lvl 2, ditch the power stone and take either the Black Staff or the Wand of Kharaidon. 6 shades is 'enough', but since you have spare points, go bigger.

its all good. Id caution anyone taking CoKs to be aware of their weakneses. Ive seen too many people place too much reliance on them only to have them krap out at the wrong moment. As knights go they are on the low end, T3 and 2+ armour, made up for with fear, Ws5 and I5, suggesting that they should be fielded in large amounts, a misnomer since they are stupid and rather pricey. Still with their armour they are one of the hardest units available. Same with the chariots, good and bad, still some of the best chariots in the game. Anyway CoKs are a double edged sword, and im a huge fan of T5 chariots.
