I gotta say, I'm mostly underwhelmed by the Hordes line. Which is a shame, because I think the game itself is fun (Trollblood are tempting, though).

I think they're well sculpted, but neither are really doing it for me. The mounts look great, but the riders seem somehow static compared to their beasts, at least to me.

Cavalry in PP hasn't done it for me in general. The horses are VERY well done and in WM the riders are great, but they were just rehashes of previous figures on horses, which didn't excite me (oh look, Iron Fang Pikemen...on horses) . Likewise here; pre-existing units, just riding things (though the Tharn look better imho).

I want to see the Troll cav, but we'll see...

Why are the Ferox $18 and the Raptors $50?

By the way, compare those Ulk to the games workshop "wood elf lord on great stag" - the stag looks like a bull with moose antlers, the Ulk actually look like a stag.

Why are the Ferox $18 and the Raptors $50?

Because your comparing a blister with a single miniature with a box that has three.

Well, of course. But the pictures are the same - my point is: are they trying to make the prices seem more palatable? Showing the box price is scary - it's out of the price range for people. Showing the same picture, but giving the price for only one (not three, despite what the picture shows) is much more interesting, and keeps people looking.

$50 for three cavalry is too much, in my opinion. Simply put, I don't care how good the sculpts are at that point.

I like the Ulks, I just can't get over how silly it is riding around on cats.

I just have this mental picture of a poor skorne praetorian hopping on the back of a cat and then cat immediately flipping over and clawing his eyes out.

I can't even get my cat to come down off the window sill when I call it, let alone have it carry a rider in formation.

All my Menites need to repell the Skorne Cavalry advance are some zealots armed with buckets of water.

Seigfried and Roy ride around on cats. You know what they say about those two.

The Nyss Raptors look about as good as could be expected, given how silly the idea is. I haven't decided if I'll get them yet.

If you look HERE you'll notice just the opposite. They have a pic of a single Ferox above the boxed set price. It's a simple mix up of pictures, not some plan to make the prices seem more 'palatable'. It's their policy to have the boxed set represent a minimum-sized unit, regardless of the price that makes the boxed set.

$50 for three cavalry is too much, in my opinion. Simply put, I don't care how good the sculpts are at that point.

And yet paying $18 for one is better than paying $52 for three?

The zealots with the buckets of water would also come in handy if your Cleansers explode ;-)

Because if you look carefully, you'll see the WE "stag" body looks ALOT, almost mirror image to the chaos dwarf Winged Bull.....I'm not kidding. Just looks like they made a few changes and said "done"

Considering the Taurus is smaller, they would have had to do more than a few changes, I will have to disagree here. Looks alot like and does are two completely different words for a reason.

However, having said that, the WE Stag is not the best sculpt in the world.

Alas, I agree.

The deer look to be really nice sculpts, however, as others have mentioned the elves are rotten.  Still, nothing a file can't fix

As a huge fan of elfquest back in the day, the northern elves who used elf stags as mounts were quite cool.

That said, I am not so hot on the elves who are mounted on the stags, but these will make a really kick butt Wood Elf mounted conversion.

I never did unerstand why GW felt mounting WE on horses as opposed to elk stags made more aesthetic sense....but whatever. I have elk stags now, and I am happy.

Hell yeah!  My WE needed a better elk.  I actually rather like both units, though I'm not really a fan of the Nyss designs in general.

Go Backs!  I had a lifetime fanclub membership when I was a kid, you know.  Started with issue 14 of the Marvel reprints, and got the second (recolored) printings of the original graphic novels on advance order when they came out- something like $12 each?  Cheap!

Thanks for the Go-back reference in pictorial format. ( I still covet my old warp comics B&W elfquests)
I really tried hard to find a pic of the stag mounts last night before passing out, but alas, my elf-fu is nothing in comparison to yours.

What made the go backs stag mounts kinda neat was those metal tipped antlers. Jesus, elk stags rock so hard it defies words...

Exalt.
