I was just wondering if anyone out there has heard any new rumors about Epic 40K?  I really like the idea of huge armies in an "epic" battle, but the whole Specialist Line is really expensive.  I heard a rumor about GW doing a new plastic line for Warmaster, but nothing about Epic.  Just wondering if anyone out there knew anything.

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

You can pick up an eldar, Ork, or IG army relatively cheaply (especially compared to 40K). Ebay really is your friend here. Tau are more expensive-especially if you get the FW kits. Marines aren't too bad and generally you're converting necron lists.

Epic content is all player generated so in terms of rules updates you can both see and participate in the specialist games forums.

As for models, I doubt there are any plans to release any new lines. There have been suggestions that Andy would like to re-release the Tyranid plastic sprue (as they have just re-released the chaos plastic sprue). As jfrazell says, other than Tyranids for which you can expect to pay a premium, ebay Epic is very very cheap compared to 40k. My Salamanders cost me about 30 quid, including 2 Warhounds and a Reaver Titan. Eldar are cost comparable with marines, especially if you don't mind older models, but Guard, Orks and Chaos tend to cost more.

Specialist Games just added a Thousand Sons army list to the expermental vault for Epic. That is at least something.

I dont expect to see GW put even one more epic model out in this incarnation, I'll be super surprised if they even rehash the tyranid plastic sprue, despite the fact that they are going for a premium on Ebay, GW has pretty muched washed its hands of the Specialist Games lines, any progress or support is completely fan driven at this point.

Rumor has it that Jerivs, though well intentioned, drove it so far into the ground that you couldn't even find it on GW's current schedule even with an Imperial Termite...

It was not Jervis that made those decisions.

You can download the Necron player's aid sheets and make your own Necron units from them.  No conversions needed.  So, you can basically run Necrons for the cost of printer paper and bases.  That's what I use for my Necrons.

Yeah, but it's where they end that counts.

Well, the Chaos plastics were just re-released in February, and the Black Legion and LatD lists made official. Rumor is that the Tyranids should be getting the same treatment next February.

Also, Forgeworld is currently working on a new super-heavy Chaos bomber.

Well, with the resources he had (i.e. none), I'm impressed that he and Andy were even able to keep them alive.

I've never played Epic, but one of these days, I'm gonna rope my group into giving it a shot as it looks like a solid game.

I've never played the game either, but everyone that I have spoken with about the game really like it. It seems to have a large fan folowing, and the models are cheap on Ebay.

I had the crazy idea about having a role-playing group with a few miniatures, then a "skirmish" level of play for the players using my normal miniatures, and finally "epic" battles for an "epic" conclusion to a story. I though it would be really fun.

Its fun but different. Maneuver, morale management, and sequence of strikes are the key. Tweeking forces ala 40K is minimal.

Nothing says loving like entire artillery parks opening up on a position

I have read a reliable rumor that there will be more revisions to the rulebook along the lines of the recent skimmer errata released over the next few months.

Last I checked (which was a couple months ago) the Adeptus Mechanicus rules committee was working on seperate army lists for: Skitarii, Titan Legions, and Knights.

Also, Epic is not completely dead since Forgeworld releases resin fliers for their Aeronautica Imperialis game - but they're all at Epic scale.

...In a few years, Epic newcomers will still be able to create a force without even relying on eBay. It's just that those armies will only made of planes and AA batteries...

Just because something hasn't been featured in a Black Library novel recently, doesn't mean it's been "retconned."

EDIT: Checked the Tactical Command forum, and there doesn't seem to be any further development of the split AdMech lists, so I wouldn't expect anything major along those lines anytime soon.  Knights and Skitarii are, of course, represented in the experimental AM:Titan Legions 2.0 list; you just can't have an all-knight or all-skitarii army.

i am a old school epic player, mostly guard and marine but i also have an eldar, ork and others floating around. Without GW support this game, while fun as heck is dead. I truely love the destruction that epic allows me to bring to the table. Alas those days are long gone, instead i must simply enjoy the moderate scale of company to battaltion sized combat.

I would be amiss if i didnt put my favorite moment when i had 10 landraiders all fire at a Gargent. 20 lascannon shots ruining his day. those were the days.

Well, in a slightly related note, I finally broke down and bought a copy of Epic Armageddon yesterday. If anyone wants to play with me, drop me a line!

I liked Epic much better in the old days. When they had "unit cards" and detachments. A big box of plastics was around $15. There were even Squats. Oops! I said the "S" word.
