Hey all,
I'm starting a ravenwing army (nerfs not withstanding) and I've got a couple of questions regarding bikes and difficult terrain.

Question 1: Does an apothecary allow you to re-roll failed dangerous terrain tests?

Question 2: Is assaulting units in cover the best way of getting rid of them?  If so, how do you deal with the dangerous terrain aspect of the assault?  If not, how do you root out entrenched units?

Question 3: What is a better method of killing off wee gribblies in cover, speeders with heavy bolters and assault cannons (100 pts) or speeders with heavy bolters and heavy flamers (75 points)?

The heavy flamer/bike flamer option is the obvious answer to dealing with light units in cover, but I'm mainly concerned with carnifexes and the like sitting there shooting everything to heck and back, in which case, multi meltas and melta guns (and assault cannons) are the only options to deal with the toughness/armor of the big bugs.

Thanks!

Heavy fire....

Make them come to me. I threaten other units not in cover.
Sometimes you have to risk the charge into cover to get those assaults for objectives.

The apoth does NOT help vs Dangerous terrain tests.

As for wee gribblies in cover they are T3 and assault cannons instant kills them along with meltaguns. Charging a Powerfist sgt works too. I would try shooting first.

You could telo. hommer some Deathwing but, that does not fit the flavor of the Ravenwing.

1.apothecary rules are quite clear-i failed armor save per player turn is igored as long as the apothecary is not locked in CC and the wond does not come from an instant death double toughness weapon. a terrain check is not a failed armor save so therefor the apothecary won't help you.

2 you always take a terrain check when driving through terrain including assaults into terrain which now makes bike heave RW armies the suck without skilled rider.

3.i prefer 2 flamers per bike squad for dealing with low T /weak save units hugging cover like IG or eldar scouts

Actually Mughi3, it ssays failed save which does not apply to the dangerous terrain test, but does apply to cover and invulnerable saves, which is one of the reasons its so nasty to have apothecary overlapping units in cover, one of the more intersting lists I have played was a series of overlapping marines with the 6+, invulnerable save to the army. 6 units with this moving in a similar method to a necron block is fun. . .

An "armor save" is different than a "cover save" is different than an "invulnerable save."

Apothecaries only help if you fail your saving throw with your actual regular armor (3+).

Except that the rules say "...ignore a failed Save (of any sort)..."
