Why do I always have this kind of change in opinion halfway through building an army.  Suddenly I want Tyranids!  I build armor and proper military looking stuff all the time, so the IG isn't holding the draw for me that it used to.  I need some variety, and I have this urge to sell at least some of my IG stuff to start a Tyranid army.  Even my Basilisk and Griffon!

What to do? What to do?

Keep your Imperial Guard and buy a Tyranid Battleforce. Paint bugs for a bet, then when you have your next change of opinion, switch back to Guard.

Yes. Never sell miniatures. Only buy. Buy many, many miniatures!

yeah, I'd recommend stashing what you've bought and painted, and start something else. You almost never recoup enough money when you sell them to make up for thinking three years later, "man, I wish I still had army X"

Nonsense! Of course you should ditch the Guard for Tyranids!

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I've sold off two armies in the past...2000 pts of Wolves and Templars for over a K...and I've totally regretted doing it. Both times I figured I could paint up a new army fast and I didn't, so I was out of the loop for a long while.

NEVER sell your figures, even if you decide to stop playing.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

NEVER sell your figures, even if you decide to stop playing.

Because God knows that if you do come back to the game, the figures will only be more expensive than when you left.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

You should do what makes you happy. What'd I'd do is put that idea in the 'hopper' for a while and see if you're still titillated (heh). If so, get some BFM 'nids cheap off ebay and get your friends to do some combat patrol/kill team stuff. If you're STILL interested, borrow a friend's army and play around with it at 'full size' (feel free to reverse points one and two). If still interested, go whole hog. This way, you're not dumping $2k in an army you lose interest in a week later...

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Pay no attention to these people. Ebay your Guard!

Well, to put a couple things out there for more thought.

Most of the Guard I have, I didn't pay full price for. I pick up things occasionally, when I find exceedingly good deals on items I want. Such as the new in box Leman Russ sitting here, that was $20 including shipping. Or the $7 Griffon mortar that needed a bit of work, and I'm sure will turn a touch of the profit right now. So I'm not worried about financial loss.

I'm also not worried about not having an army to use. I still have the Tau and Marines

But I think I will steer toward the though of just buying the Tyranids, and shoeboxing the guard for now. Never know when I might decide I want that new baneblade.

Pariah: "Yes. Never sell miniatures. Only buy. Buy many, many miniatures!"

Are you the voice in our heads that activates whenever a new army comes out?

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
