I see what you did there....

You think the Broodlord is more useful than a (walking) Devourer-Tyrant? I don't know that I'd agree, although he complements your Raveners a bit.

Mmm, that might make a difference, yes. Avoid the lava tables.

I think you should try to squeeze one or two regular bio-acid spore mine clusters in there (obviously you'd have to drop a Ravener to fit in a 2nd cluster).

I'm also not very keen on the Broodlord either. Even with infiltration it seems your opponent can really easily counter the unit. Although with that many scuttling models coming your way it does put even more pressure on your opponents so maybe it'll work out.

Really? You should totally dig that up and send it back to me.

I'll tell you one thing, you better pray you don't end up fighting Dornfist's list and if you do you better pray you get the first turn (even then I'm not exactly sure how many Stealers would be alive for turn 2).

Edit: I still have that email in my outbox. Ha, ha. My past self has convinvced me again: regular Spore Mines are just too expensive for what they do.

Dornsfists list is the paper to my rock. Of course, Eldar Air Cav is the scissors to his paper. Or actually more like the bomb to both our paper and rock. Godzillas would be the better scissors.

Ya, unless your facing something like Black Templar (very assaulty chapter of Space Marines), and have first turn, I think you might have a little problem. However, a giant mass of genestealers isn't a bad idea if you have lots of cover on your table. Possibly add a few more guns to ur army

So C99, you reported that the Broodlord was just "ok" in your winning performance. If you were going to go to another tournament with the same list would you tinker with it at all, if so how?

The Broodlord and retinue are a pretty expensive unit at 190 points. For roughly an equivilant amount of points (193 pts) you could get a Dakkafex and a Lictor, for example. Or forget the Lictor and take a 3rd Zoey and a few more Gaunts.

What say you Mr. GT winner? Stick with the Broodlord or dump him for something else?

Hey C99, come gloat of you vitories, we want to hear of the adventure. I must admit you've yet again impressed and surprised me with the list and the following result. Looking forward to full battle reports.

The broodlord did okay...Don't know that I'd want to replace him with anything, really. He's really just an extra three wounds for a GS squad.

I don't want to use a dakkafex. Multiple lictors is an interesting thought.

Do the Raveners deep-strike, or start on the board.  I am guessing start on the board, but am curious.  Mez

How did you do? I'm intrigued to see how your mechanised marines are faring when everyone seems to have such a downer on vehicles.

Cheers.

Nice to see little bugs get some. No reason to deep strike Ravenors with such high mobility. Multiple Lics may help in those escalation missions also.

@ lonepilgrim

I finished 3-2 for the weekend.  I went with the second list version as I was inspired (again) from watching Blackhawk Down (again).  The list was my version of ATTACK FORCE DELTA represented in the movie:

THE SECURITY FORCE

Captain w/ bp & pf, iron halo (my version of Cortez from the Crimson Fists/Steelefrom the movie)

Tac 1x5 w/ flamer

Razorback w/ heavy bolter turret

THE EXTRACTION FORCE

Tac 5x5 w/ heavy bolters

Razorback w/ heavy bolter turret

THE BLACKHAWKS

LS Tornado 2x1

LS Typhoon 1x2

10th CAVALRY TANK SUPPORT (I indulged myself, a luxury the real marines didn't have)

Predator Annihilators x3 w/ lascannon sponsons, searchlights

Needless to say, I wasn't going to dominate my opponents as I disadvantaged myself with a pf on my independent character (CF flavor), no assault weapons (flamer excluded), no real HTH units (shooty marines), and 420 points spent on non-scoring units (R'backs).  But it is a themed army that I truly enjoy playing and my version of the equivalent of space marines to today's marines mobile combined arms strike team/shooty assault force.

I went on a road trip to Yellowstone with my family after the event and just got back yesterday.  I will be making a battle report from what I remember after 3500+ miles and 60+ hours of driving.  The surprise unit that was the MVP of the weekend for me was the TYPHOON squad.  These little bastards did significant damage and secured more objectives over the 5 games earning more VP's then their measily 140 points could have imagined.

I lost to TAU (seek and destroy) & NECRONS (secure & control)

I won against SPACE WOLVES (take and hold), SPACE MARINES (cleanse) and ULTRAMARINES (recon).

I will be playing the list again with some minor tweaks.  No, I don't think it will be MORE advantageous!

A massacre, major, and minor victory.  I was massacred twice by bonus victory points.  Gotta keep your eye on the missions!  All of my games were great ones and I would absolutely play any of my opponents again.  The necron player, Joe, was my favorite opponent.  I wasn't the only one who benefited from his company, as he won the favorite opponent award for the weekend.  Still trying to figure out how to get pictures on my batreps so I can post them.

Thanks dornsfist. I'll look out for the full report. I'm trying to build a similar list with my Blood Angels because I want something a little different from the all jump pack lists that are so popular now. I'm willing to take the hit in competitiveness for theme and my own enjoyment.

Cheers.
