This is a callout to all you scratchbuilders who might get excited about the new "Ghost in the Shell" models coming out.  They've done tachikoma, and now they're expanding the military line. In this case, the cool helo-attack-drone.

The models are superb, the right scale (1/72 works for a drone. The Tachikoma come in all sorts of scales), and you can't beat the price. Good God! The weapon bits alone on this kit are worth the price.

I picked up a few kits and am eager to build one straight and then kit-bash the other into something for 40K..

Looks very Tau... or Tau looks very anime. What a great price. Any idea on how large the completed model is?

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Astounding! GW would charge half that for just the Tachikoma. ;P

I'll try and get a scale pic (model to GW) up.  It's about the size of a speeder.

Here's a better shot of the completed drone model...

This Tachikoma model is plastic, 1/24 (A 40K fig is 3/4 the size of the human fig in the pic) and perfect 40K scale for all sorts of things.  I happen to love the Ghost in the Shell tech look, but there is lots of room for kit-bashing if you're not into urban sentient tanks/battle armor.  You can find the plastic kits on eBay for about $25 (More if you have to order from Japan).

Here's some of the other kits. These are not models, they're trading figures.  For scale, a typical Tachikoma is 3 inches from back of pod to end of arms.  The armor at the bottom right is the perfect size for an interesting Dreadnaught conversion.

Yup, awesome. Take off the lower bit, replace the front with a vulture style cockpit bash, and it's done. I may try it.

Given the way anime looks (especially arm/leg joints), I've always felt the Japanese have an unnatural obsession with bugs.

That is very true.

However, I'm not sure if GW's unnatural obsession with skulls is any less whacked.

I picked up one of these Jagabachis to use in Infinity. It'll make a hella cool drone chopper.

Have the Jigabachi AV kit with me. It's about 15cm long and looks fairly simple to build. It also comes with that funky poseable flight stand and the mini-tachikoma. All for about $35-ish.

Cheers
