Considered a taboo subject to many, green stuff molds, and molding in general, are an important part of being a modeler. Series Complete: Part 1 - Making the Mold http://youtube.com/watch?v=YwzJkE2gKhA Part 2 - Making a Cast http://youtube.com/watch?v=D35pBr2WZps Part 3 - Trimming the Flash http://youtube.com/watch?v=nOoAFQwF3_w You'll notice in the first video, I say red and blue putty, whoops. Should be yellow and blue. I did check the rules, and I am pretty sure I am not braking any. However, in the past some people have had issues with this subject. So in the case that this content is deemed unsavoury, I acknowledge that it may be removed. Cheers, -Xander

It's only taboo if your pulling molds off of GW products.
Do you have any non-video information on molding?

Non-video info? Like what? There will probably be two more videos in this series.

No worries here. Only the tards over on B&C disallow discussion of GSC method, despite the fact that GW itself has put out several hobby articles which detail and encourage it. Great stuff, btw. Your Chaos Dwarf vids were damn impressive.

Thanks for the comments guys! GSCs are so important to making a unified and unique look, it's a shame some people fear to talk about them.

This is a very cool idea. I have been interested in different ways to cast little bits of detail for terrain, and minis as well. This method that you are showing would be a good way to make relief details on shoulder pads and the like.

Also, 2 part molds are completely possible, as long as you devise a way for the excess to be pushed out. A friend of mine sculpted some nice footballs for bloodbowl and they were perfect for a green stuff press mould. I made one part like shown in the videos but with a nice gap/hole for the bottom of the football. I also made some indents to act as mold keys. After that hardened, instead of taking the piece out, I lightly coated it with vaseline and then put on another sandwich layer of greenstuff, being certain to press it tightly around the piece and into the key indents. After it was all hardened I took it apart and tested it. with enough pressure, the greenstuff squeezed out of hole I left. It also helped to put the ball of green stuff in and then put the top layer on and sort of roll it from one side to another as I pushed down-- starting at the top and moving down towards where the excess will squeeze out of the hole. I applied as much pressure as I could with my bear hands and then left it to cure.
The cast turned out great. There was lots of flash but it was very, very thin as I pressed so hard. I had to trip/flatten the bottom so the ball would stand on the bloodbowl board like the original did.
Also, it helps to mix vaseline right into the greenstuff while you're mixing it. You want it just up to the point where it gets a bit slippery and ever so hard to handle.
I know people have made lasgun presses to replicate laspistols with a two part mold. I've done it with the footballs, I've seen it done with a monstrous hand. 2 part molds are completely possible as long as you plan exit holes/gaps for the green stuff to be squeezed out of and make the mold walls strong enough to take the pressure of squeezing it out with out distorting. In the monstrous hand's case, there was a very small vent hole made by insetting a wire during the mold making process that extended out of each finger tip. When the hand was cast/squished, the greenstuff pushed out of the hole at the wrist as well as each finger tip. After it was cured, it was simply a matter of trimming the fingers and the wrist as needed.

Very informative videos. Thanks for posting them. Oh, and before I forget... this is one of the best quotes ever - "My balls of green stuff are quite large."

Copyright infringement counts for any models, not just GW ones.
