I'm thinking of including some Marker Drones in a Tau army list I'm working on.

They carry Networked Markerlights, which have the following profile:
Range 36", Heavy 1.

My question is: If I purchase these drones for a Crisis Suit team, can they move and still fire their Networked Markerlights? I am probably overlooking something but I can find nothing in the codex explaining that they can, though it seems silly and useless if they cannot.

You're not missing anything and it is a silly idea to take marker drones in a Crisis team. They're only really useful in a firewarrior or Broadside unit that is going to stand and fire anyway.

Yak did not really answer your question.....

The "heavy 1" gives you the answer.
Unless the rules state otherwise, no non vehicle unit can move and shoot heavy weapons.

Exceptions would be Broadsides with ASS, certain other units with slow and purposeful.

Yak is right about not putting them in with crisis suits. You could do it but it would be a bit dumb. Dont know too many players who would give up JSJ on these teams.

This is not a stupid idea at all, although Stealth suits are a better choice for marker drones

All tau battle suits (crisis and stealth) are jet infantry so therefore benfit from the relentless special rule,

relentless units may move and fire rapid-fire and heavy weapons as well as asaulting afterwards

drones become the same unit type as thier parent unit therefore maker drones can join battlesuit units and jump about to thier hearts content

I agree with Karrayan, the drones gain the unit type of the team they are in, but not additional rules, such as acute sensors and the phrase which the crisis and broadside teams have indicating that they can fire rapid fire weapons on the move but not heavy weapons.

It seems wierd that stealth and crisis teams could use marker drones on the move and broadsides couldn't but it's just one of the many bizarre issues with cross edition interaction. The tradeoff for broadsides is you can throw them in a devilfish if you need to move them nowdays.

So marker drones may fire from a crisis or stealth team that has moved in the movement phase but not a broadside team.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I guess you guys didn't notice that this thread is a YEAR AND A HALF OLD. I'm constantly amazed at this behavior. Not only is this thread necromancy, the discussion happened LAST EDITION.

You got brains, people. Use 'em.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
