The new chaos codex explains that a winged model can deepstrike.. So this means that a Daemon prince with wings can deepstrike? Makes him all the better in escalation missions.....

You are correct. He can deepstike.

Wow... I wish they had not done that...

It brings back all the confusion from people remembering 3rd Ed when wing=DS.

I wish they had made it a trait of each unit. IOW For X pts they can have wings. If equipped with wings, they may also deepstrike.

Oh well... no real biggie.

(Heh... would be funny if it was a mistake.

So you can like, deep strike in the back and then lash of submission some pesky hidden unit into the open then? Solid.

yeah, although I think the operative effect is going to be:

So you can like, deep strike in the back and then lash of submission some pesky hidden unit into the open (before the next opponent's shooting phase turns turns your Lash weilder to a fine red mist.)

Because Lash princes aren't THAT hard a target, and since they won't be able to hide in assault  - unless your opponet is criminally stupid - some unit is likely going to be able to light him up like a Christmas tree.

I think a more interesting question would be this:

Does a Chaos Lord with Wings start on the board for Escalation? Why/why not?

Wings make him jump infantry.

If wings didn't make him jump infantry, there would be no reason why he could move 12", because the wings rules don't say "may move 12"".

Actually, wings in the new chaos codex does not denote that the model is jump infantry. It states "Models equipped with wings move in the same way as Jump Infantry". This is further shown glaringly in the jump pack description, where it says "Models equipped with jump packs are Jump Infantry". So, now all of your Chaos Lords and Sorcerers with wings will start on the table, and be able to move about effectively, even in Escalation. And it is rather nice to know that your Prince with wings can deepstrike.

Too bad they won't FAQ Nids and let them deepstrike....
