Simple question, does the Daemonhunter's Null rod cancel out the Harlequin's Veil of Tears power?

...start buying heavy bolter servitors guys....!

I can see why it wouldn't.

But it damn well should.

I mean, it's pretty easy to say that VoT is a psychic power effecting your units. Just read the entry.

Good enough evidence for me to say yes.

In the same way that DH and WH werent affected by Siren, Null Rod isnt affected by Siren.

I was assuming that VoT affected the Harlequin unit, much like the warlock power "Concealment" in which case the Null Rod WOULDNT work. Unfortunatly after close reading of the VoT rules, it seems that this might not be the case.

Seems that the Null Rod might be a Harlequin buster after all.

Warwalkers have aquired a new target....the inquisitor and his retinue....eat scatter laser.

Yeah, I think the null rod does negate VoT.

The wording is different from Collar of Khorne and Siren rules, such that the situations are not analagous.

-VoT is a psychic power
-The effect of VoT is that a unit that wants to target the harlequins has to roll dice
-The rod causes all psychic powers to have no effect on the bearer (and his unit) regardless of source

So, the null rod bearer doesn't have to roll dice to target.

VoT still retains its effect on the harlequins--they still have VoT on them, and the null rod doesn't cause it to stop working.  It just has no effect on the null rod guy and his squad.

Wait...

So do my Sisters of Battle ignore Veil of Tears? Or save on a 5+? (Don't have the Eldar Codex)

That's a much trickier question to answer with the RAW.

The Null Rod rule is worded there isn't any conflict, but the same isn't true for the SoB Shield of Faith rule (there's a difference between a unit just not being affected as with the Null Rod and a power being completely nullified as with the SoB Shield of Faith) so I'm not even going to bother trying to make a RAW decision on Shield of Faith (as we'd just have to bust out the rusty spoons).

In my FAQ (where I get to make any ruling I want), I rule that any persistent psychic power (one that is always in effect without having to pass a psychic test) can never be nullified and I would certainly put Veil of Tears into this category. So the Shield of Faith would have no effect against the Veil of Tears although a Null Rod would still allow the unit with it to ignore the effects of the VoT).

What about WH penitents for an Inquisitor retinue? They say that any power that targets the unit or includes it will be in essence nullified on a roll of 4+(2+ if you have more than 1). What is VoT's AOE, and would it nullify the power to let other units fire upon the clowns?

I think area of affect can be handlded simply enough but since GW has not defined what they mean when they rarely use this term people are able to weasel their way out.
