I just finshed my first army (2000 pt. Necrons) and now I'm making the army I've had in my head for quite a while: Nurgle 'Nids. A splinter fleet accidentaly ate  nurgle world and got infected. They play just like regular 'nids but have biomorphs to suggest their infestation i.e. spore cysts, toxic miasma, symbiote rippers (nuglings), implant attacks. They dont actually HAVE to have any of those, but they feel like they belong in the army.

My problem is that I have no clue where to start. The 'nid codex is chock full of stuff that only serves to boggle me. I want a "gaunt hammer" kind of deal with tons o' crapgaunts that tie up enemies while my raveners, suped up warriors, stealers etc. get into the fight, but I dont know how to work in anti-armor and other units that balance a list. I'm shooting for 2000 points in the end. So all you magnificent norn queens/ Hive Tyrants out there... help?

Thanks,

-Eli

Between a rock and a hard place

Ditch the warriors. Whilst they are useful in that they count as infantry for escalation, they are far too costly for what they do.

Nice idea for a theme, not too sure on it myself, but I'll try and give you a few pointers. Zilla nids seem to fit the bill here- big bugs that can take a ton of punishment seem pretty Nurgle-like to me. A few large squads of cheap gaunts, backed up by killing power of stealers will take you far.

Dont forget... 2000p of nurgletyranids... thats a lot of conversions! Big Bugs is the best way to go....

I ALWAYS got a flying hive tyrant with two twin linked devourers... dont know if this fits your army.....
You need sum carnifex vennom cannons to stun/destroy enemy tanks...
Elite carnifex with twin linked devourers..always good...

You could use the old chaos spawn model and convert it... (make it a fat lictor.. 8)
You could convert the genestealers with chaos armor....(chaos marines transformed into genestealers) and give them the extra 1+ save...
You can give them all the nurgle horn...(you know.. the unicorn horn between the eyes...)
You can greenstuff sum nurgle marks in the tyranids skin .. like if the nurgle god has brandmarked them...

Why not go with a sort of undead tyranid theme?? Make it so that Nurgle swept through an old battle field (or recent one) and raised the carcasses of the dead and dying Tyranids back to life and infused them with Nurgles dark powers. It would offer up a lot of conversion potential.

In fact I feel tempted to do such a thing...I like the idea of undead tyranids...Damn, just what I needed was another themed army idea right now!

Plano, Texas

I don't think undead tyranids could work... after a battle, the hivefleet reabsorbs dead tyranids on the planet for biomass.

Unless it's a splinter fleet and Nurgle get's off his arse and re-animates the bodies before they can be re consumed...Just a thought...plus I like the idea of rotted Tyranid corpses wreaking havoc!

Thanks,
