(Disclaimer: I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I couldn't find anyhting that sounded right)

Hey Dakkans. I'm ready for my next army! The two ideas I have rolling around in my head are a steampunk mech IG and a rebel grot army, the problem is I cant choose which one I want to do more. I had the idea to combine them and it seems pretty reasonable that grots would make some cool steampunk stuff. Either way I want to include a bunch of mechs (khans and dreds for grots and sentinels for IG) and Im not overly concerned with powergaming stuff. Has anyone seen any good examples of steampunk or rebel grot armies? If so, pictures would be more than welcome. Thanks.

No examples, but with the new Ork rules coming out, I'd hold off until Xmas and do those. I love grot armies!

The old 3.0 ed. IG codex had an image of a steampunk-esque IG trooper. Having said that, wait until the new Ork codex. Or use IG rules to do a Steampunk Rebel Grot army.

Thanks for bringing that up, I forgot to mention that I was hesitant becauise of the new ork rules any models coming out. Keep the good info coming! I'm still hoping for pictures. Oh and another thought I had was using some warmachine models as sort of a base. I like army that starts with a K.... Theyre Warjacks are red and hulky. ANyway, thanks again!

Well, khador 'jacks are nice bases. But unless you want it to be painfully obvious its a Khador Jack in a Warhammer 40k place, you're gonna have to do quite a bit of modification to get it to look in place with the universe.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

Haha, I'm not going to just leave them, but theyre such cool models and theyre such a good starting place that I can't hardly think of anything better that isnt scratchbuilt.

I dont actually own an IG codex, is there a way to jam in a crapton of sentinels? Ive been checking out the leaked ork dex bits and Im thikning an army with a big mek that allows me to take an extra deff dread as a troop choice looks nice.

You can take 1-3 sentinels per squadron. A sentinel squadron is a Fast attack choice. You can also include one squadron with your command HQ.

I too want to do a grot army, but am waiting for the new ork codex and (just maybe) new grot models - otherwsie I'm stuck with converting piles of goblins...

Yes, I think steampunk grots would be a way cool them - it's perfectly fluffy as the steampunk technology explains their unusually high combat abilities, e.g. mini-dreds counting as Ork Boyz or whatever.

I still like LS's gnoblar grot conversions so he could use plastic.

Gnoblars are the Ogre Kingdoms equivalent of grots yeah? I was thinking that I would get most of the bitz and pieces from a few boxes of those, but what exactly are you reffering to?

Gnoblars look like a good deal too for grot replacements. something like 20 for $30 or so (retail).

my friend made a rebel grot army and took it to the vegas gt (he won best army and 3rd for best painted too i believe) and la games day, some of his stuff is up on the GW site.

i have to say, it is sone of the coolest armies i have ever seen, he uses a lot of counts as stuff like his Grot warboss, but the rest of it is 180 grots, grot piloted custom buggies, killa kans, etc. it is a fantastic force and everyone who sees it loves it. I would say you cant go wrong with that.

but steam punk IG is pretty cool too, and i have never seen that done.

much obliged friend. Well, heres where I stand: I'm leaning toward rebel grot steampunk based on the ork dex, but with the new ork dex coming next year(ish) my instant gratification sense is leaning toward IG, also steampunk. If I go grot, the mechs have to look cobbled together, if I go IG I want them to look prfessional. Either way, I have to actually model the mechs and thats where Im drawing a blank. I looooove the warmachine miniature range, and the Khador 'jacks would be a great *base* for grotty machines. Obviouslt they would still be heavily converted with (even) bigger engines, spiky bits, missing bits, and some scrapmetal patches. As for IG, I have noooo clue where to begin. Inspire me Dakka!

If you go grot, also consider PP's various gobbers, but especially the Cygnar repair guys. I think they'd go well with the gnoblars if you use them as a base for gretchin.

For Steampunk IG, consider the following:
The old Mordians and Praetorians are obvious choices, as are the current Vostroyan range.
If looking outside GW, there are several options:
These sci-fi prussians
Pig Iron's Kolony Militia
Pulp Miniatures Gasmask cultists
Prince August still carries the Warzone plastics: 80 (40 each) near-future WWI-style Brits and Germans (picklehaubes FTW!)
As to vehicles, Armorcast and Old Glory both sell a lot of steampunk stuff, and there's always the Empire steam tank (old and new versions), but you could probably take any IG vehicle and, with enough rivets and bits from the Pegasus factory sprue, give them a good 'retrofit'.

The red star is the rebel grots.  I think a grot army steampunk themed would be really cool.  At gamesday LA my two favorite armies were both grot armies.

Hmmm.. a steampunk themed grot army well if you don't do it I know what my next army is going to be.

How about..... Steampunk Rebel Imperial Grots!

Whatever you end up calling these guys, you can use little uniformed grots, and big honkin“ tanks. Ooh, and the Red Star of the rebel grots would fit in amazingly well with a steampunk russian“ized army.......
