Not miniature news, but I'm sure there are alot of fans here.... He passed away today at 2:45pm. Book 12 was apparently not completed. Shame....though it serves as an example to writers not to be ultra ambitious with your works! heh. Plot threads introduced in book 2 will now never get resolved....at least not with his true vision.

Well, I expected him to die before he finished it... would of been nice if I was proven wrong.
Funny thing is its normal for a person to end without a climax, but a book series ending without a climax seems so empty.
On a completely selfish note, do you think what he does have in writing about his book will be publicized?

It happened for Frank Herbert, it'll prolly happen for Jordan as well.
Sad to hear a fantasy author go, even though I didnt appreciate his work many did. Numerous games about the Wheel of Time were made. Someone had to love it.
I never got into the Wheel of Time because I heard it ...was lackluster. Not to disrespect the dead, but he didnt seem too hot on finishing the series.

There's no disrespect in an honest critique, Hellfury. Rest in peace Mr. Jordan. Rest in peace.

I gave the Wheel of Time my best shot after hearing so many people enthuse about it, but I only managed to stomach up to book 3.
Gotta feel sorry for those who did buy into it though.

It was only getting more complicated anyway. Every book brought in somthing new without tying up loose ends. I hate to say it but this is one of the only ways I saw this series comming to an end. The way it was going the more books that came out the harder the final conclusion would be to comprehend nevermind write. I feel sorry for him that he never completed it. But I also feel sorry for all those readers out there that will never know what happens. Lets face it though were books 7-10 nessesary? 11 was cool but only because it finally felt like it was getting back on track. Still at least I'm not waiting for the next one now. All that said he was a great writer and I'm glad that I read his stuff.

Here is an interesting note from the Official Robert Jordan Blog (written about a week ago).
Yes he is continuing to work through all of this medical calamity. MOL [Memory of Light] is going into the word processor and onto audio tapes almost daily. Not every day mind you, because the medical fight takes first priority. But, he told you he?d finish and he will. Fact is that it has been finished in his head for years. During a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL. Don?t ask, ain?t telling. Two and a half hours of story telling by the Creator himself went by in the twinkling of an eye. Truly magical. All I can say is WOW! Best stuff he?s ever done. MOL is going to knock your socks off! That?s a promise.
I read the first four books in college and thought RJ was one of the best fantasy authors ever. I still think he's great, even though the series went way beyond what was needed. Anyone who can create such a detailed world and write a 800+ page book that I tear through in a few days must know what they are doing. Based upon the clip above from the blog, the family and publisher may work with another talented writer to publish the material. If they can release a 'new' Tolkien book over 30 years after his death, I bet they can find a way to finish WoT.
RJ will be missed.

It's a sad thing - he fought the good fight, against a truly nasty disease, and appeared to be beating the odds right up until the end.
As to the series - the 12th book (Memories of Light, IIRC) was intended to be the final book. Much of it was written; all of the plot elements were dictated and taped. Apparently, according to RJ's blog, he had planned for this contingency and was confident his family could use the materials already completed to produce the final volume.

He seemed like a good guy to me. Reason enough to mourn the loss. I didn't like his work either, but the courage he kept in the face of such a bleak situation definately earns an even bigger tip of the hat in my book.
...it's always sad to lose another goober. I wish you could have finished the series you loved so much, Rob.
Bleh, this after Madeline L'engle also died this month. It's not been the greatest September for book lovers.
Take a bow, you two.

Sorry to hear he passed on, but frankly the series didnt get known as the 'Waste of Time' for no reason....
Although I heard he made notes on how he wanted it to end, and his wife and publisher will find someone to finish it....

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers... |

WOT was my favorite series. Ever. I can still read it over and over and feel like I did the first time. I'm truly saddened by the fact that R.J. will never get to finish this masterpiece. Hopefully it can be completed so I can finally go on to reading other authors.

I knew he would die before finishing the series back around book 8. There was just so much to do and the books were just not coming out fast enough. It is really sad. While I left WOT at about book 8, what I will mostly remember him for are his Conan books. Those were just great.
