Subject: sealer - varnish - dullcoat ?

I am looking to switch from the Armory spray flat varnish to something different. I have a can of this which has let me down, and I wanted to see what other people are using. I have heard from a lot of pro painters that they use Testors Dullcoat. I may give that a shot. I've even used workable fixatif from art supply stores to good effect, they at least help keep your minis from getting too much dust and such on them. Tips, stories, ect?

Krylon gloss varnish has served me the best thus far and been the cheapest, but I have some armoy matt to kill shine if I wanted to. Tried that straight up once, didn't like what happened to my models, but krylon surprisingly worked very nicely.

testors dullcote works great! i have also used matte finish from krylon, i've gotten bigger cans of the krylon for the same or less price than the testors. i have used the fixatif from my sister the art student. it seems to "blush" or turn milky easier in humidity than the testors or krylon IMHO. hope that helps.

I usually use a coat of Testors glosscote and then another coat of Testors dullcote to kill the shine. That's what I recommend.

I use krylon crystal clear matte. I also have a can of gloss for laying down a first varnish coat but I rarely use it. Long story short they are cheap and work beautifully.

testors dullcoat over GW ardcoat FTW. also, Testors Clear flat finish is almost the same as their dullcoat
