it's MR. CHEAP at it again!! I was @  Dollar Tree a few weeks ago & found soldiers in packages 6 in a pack for a $1.00. If my digital camera worked I'd have pictures, but your not missing much. The quality is sub-par to be polite, but hey what do you expect for a buck! Then I thought to myself it seems everyone is gearing up for the large scale apocalypse games, & Guard players probably would want alot of bodies to keep up. These cheap guys could be used to fill in the gaps. I put this information out just hoping that maybe it might help somebody even if its just a band-aid fix to get something started.

I'd laugh mah backside off at anyone who put down plastic green army men on a 40k table. Now if they took the time to base and paint them, I'd give them a high five.

Army men rock.

I love the classic green.

There is someone here who has cadians that are spray painted nearly the exact colour of "army men green". No other detailing, he just spent a buttload of money on making his cadians into army men...

basically the same idea you have, except your idea is cheaper and far more pragmatic.

His is just odd, but funny.

Out of Dark Angels Green and Catachan Green, which is the closest to "Army Men Green"? I ask this because, coincidently, I have been planning on this very same thing for over a year now.

*Edit- also, if anyone knows of another GW "Green" that is closest than the two I mentioned, feel free to comment.

**Edit#2- I was playing around with the IG painter on the UK GW site & noticed Catachan Green, Dark Angels Green and Snot Green both represent Army Men colors I have seen over the years. Which color(s) should I use?

***Edit#3- Upon further comparisons, I have concluded that Snot Green closely  represents "Army Men Green". It's bright, stands out & clearly has that "cheap, army men" feel to it.

What do you all think?

actually they are prepainted (badly) & come in 3 styles a woodland camo, desert & arctic schemes.they are as tall as a cadian just not as buff. the uniform & helmet look like 1980's BDU's & steel pot

So do you think Goblin Green best represents "classic/the video game" Army Men color? Please click this link to the UK GW IG Painter & fill the whole model in Goblin Green & tell me what you think.

(Not to Res an old subject, but I really would like more input on the color so I can begin painting this army)

*Edit- I am tossed between Snot Green & Goblin Green. (confused)

Goblin + Scaly?

Again with the Goblin + Scaly, with some others

Goblin is definately the video game colour, those games suck by the way, Sarge's heroes was the one I played and I was very disapointed.

Cool, Goblin Green it is. I was planning on adding these "Army Women" into the bunch and still keep them all painted the same way:

and maybe some of these girls:

Any other suggestions for female Guardsmen that would look toyish/Army Men'esque in Goblin Green, feel free to post them up. 8)

*Edit- you think adding a nice thin gloss to the models will give them that "toy" look?

I can't wait to see them! I've though about the same thing, only making sure to have highlights to meet the 3 color rule.

So should I expect to see some traitorous guardsmen on the table for our next game Brian? Those Seraphim love roasting them some traitors they do! Grab enough, drop them in some Simple Green and base them, and we can get them primed and painted and do a mini-Apoc battle.

Somewhere in south-central England.

I used to do a lot of figures in hard gloss to get the "toy soldier" look, and also because it is much more finger resistant than matt.

In the UK we never had your American Army Men. We had plastic soldiers in 1/72 scale and also during the 70s and 80s in 1/32 scale. I still have a big box full of them (and I'm 45) but have no son to play with :-( .

The 1/72 scale troops have become a big thing in historicals thanks to their cheapness compared to metal.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yea I played a really fun WW2 era game at a convention using large sized figures that were just converted and painted army men. Each player (of 6) had ~10-15 troops in his platoon, each modeled with a standing, kneeling and prone figure, with rules for going from each position. It was a really good time, though I think trying to get anything similar for 40k would be WAY too hard.

yes wehrkind (Eric) I do plan @ first to proxy them for more gue'vesa for my tau. then later use the legs & maybe torsos for a better conversion to compliment the rest of my gue'vesa, but for right now they'll be like most of my army half arsed & half done.
