by that I mean a stompa model which can be equipped as either a 'plain' stompa or a big mek stompa. (One will take me long enough to make!)  With magnetised weapons it shouldn't be that hard.

The big mek stompa seems straightforward, in that most things have obvious locations: deth cannon & gigashoota on one arm, lifta-droppa on other, gaze of mork obviously on head, leaving 2 big shootas, 3 supa-rokkits and three fire points to go somewhere else (these are shared with the plain stompa, so can be permanently modelled, as can the big shoota and hatch on the back).

The plain stompa is a bit less obvious - the deth cannon & supa gatler on one arm, the twinlinked big shoota seems a bit weedy to go on the other arm alone, unless combined with the supa-skorcha?  But having a supa-skorcha high on a shoulder seems a bit odd (and awkward to use, if your opponent insists on you measuring from the weapon) - attaching it as a 'crotch weapon' seems cooler.

Any other ideas?  I'm partway through the legs and torso of mine, so will be building weapons soonish.

sounds like a good idea, but I wanna build a REAL Big Mek Stompa. I have a few ideas, but I'm not ready to share them just yet

well you do have a titan close combat weapon to add, so perhaps that could go on the other arm,

I've done mine as normal stopma, but if i get round to it i'll do up a lifta droppa arm. I've got:

Right arm: deth-cannon/giga shoota

left arm: close combat weapon (giant chain fist which i've been told looks like a land-speeder on it's side), with the super scorcher under-slung from it like an old wraith-lord.

Left shoulder: 3 rokkits and control tower.

shoulders: big shoota each

Right nipple: Twin linked big shoota hatch

back: twin linked big shoota

If i do a mek upgrade i'll take the close-combat arm off and replace with lifta-droppa, as that gets rid of an excess weapons, though a belly gun would look cooler.

Vompire, welcome to Dakka. Please use punctuation in the future. You’re arguments will be sign with greater merit and you’ll avoid people calling you on it.

Yeah, think I will do a giant chainsaw arm with a supa-skorcha underneath or on the side, just to avoid all the pubescent 'crotch weapon' jokes...

Yeah, I've been working on a "combi-stompa" for a couple weeks now too. So far it is about 2/5ths done and have poured maybe 70 hours into it. Almost agrivating how long it is taking. But anyway, after all this time you bet it is going to be modular! I DID have the same problem you mentioned with the idea of putting a gun in its crotch, but after asking some people if it would be too imature I went for it anyway. The adjantage here is that with the short range of the supa skorcha having it closer to the ground increases the range on it and increases its value. This is where I will be putting the Supa-Scorcha for the regualr stompa, but for now I REALLY wanted to make it a Big shoota turret for the Mek Stompa. Sadly enough I have spent un-godly ammounts of hours modding the bloody thing and it is not done yet. Figured with this model i wanted each gun to be visibly manned by an Ork or Grot so the thing looks more like a machine and less like a robot. Then for the Gigga-Shoota and the Supa-Gatla they will be the same arm, since as you pointed out they are more or less the same concept. The close combat arm will be swapable for the Lifta Droppa of course. But I am not sure what I want to do for the CCW. I can forsee spending 13 years modelling each chain tooth if I make a chain axe like I want, so I figure it will probably be a power klaw or a boring-ass hammer. The Gaze will probably be in the head with a trillion electical widgets sticking off of it for the mek and for the reg-stompa maybe it will have a pintle mounted twin linked big shoota. I wanted to make a launch deck for a buncha Grot guided rokkits but as it is I think it will be a bit taller than the GW stompa conversions that they have in the APOC book. Their Stompas are roughly 10 and a half inches tall, where as mine might end up a foot. smaller is better in my opinion. What I am thinking about doing for the last big shoota for the regular stompa is make it swapable for a supa-rokkit, a fourth one on the shoulder, then I will just say that it is a dud or something. Maybe it will just be an observation deck for for the Big Mek that you can swop out for a big shoota. If I get around to finding my digital camera I will take some pics for ya.

thanx, machineslave, will look forward to those pics. For your CCW, have you considered a giant circular saw blade? would be fairly easy to model, as the teeth don't have to be regular. I'lll probably go for giant chainsaw or giant meat tenderizer myself.

re the grot rokkit launcher, I'm using land raider side panels as my frontal armour, and am using the four door holes as weapon mountings - so for the rokkits, i'll just have one about to launch out one of the door holes, and next to it a teeny shelf where a dice can sit to indicate the number of rokkits left. Beats modelling 3 rokkits.

I may not model a full crew for each weapon, but i am planning on plenty of windows (well, gaps in the armour, to be more exact) with orks and grots peering out

Here is a close up of the foot.  I still have to build the other hydrolic rams and cover the ends of the hinge.  I am also thinking about putting some decorative plates on the toes in the design of flames.

this will be the engine room.  the two engines on either side run the legs and the engine in the middle runs the arms and generator.

This is what it looks like at a distance

a full interior? wow, you're a sucker for punishment I take it that you (like me) were underwhelmed by GW's very average models in the Apocalypse book - like me you've done a lot more effort on the feet (although mine don't have visible hips - yours look great but are they going to be sturdy enough?). I like the use of tank road wheels as ammo cannisters.

will post some pics of mine once i get the basic chassis frame together

The stompa so far is kinda sketchy as per how sturdy it will be. The walls will be a lot thicker when the armour plates are tacked on. The hips are stable enough. The floor is a landraider floor and a couple of the battlefield accessory pallets reinforced with some plastic I beams. Then the hip axle is glued to it with a couple supports and then housed in a plasticard box. So that as well as the legs are pretty darn stable. Initially the plastic-card boxed housing for the large hydrolic rams in the legs were pretty flimsy so I added an I beam on one of them and as I built the second I put more internal supports to keep it from falling apart when you pick it up. The feet are rock hard! Probably in part due to all the L-beams and a few internal supports. One of the things I had done early on that I regret was not adding a fourth toe on the inside of the feet. In my sketch pad I had draffed it up to have the fourth, but somewhere along the line I figured it would look kooler not to have it. Another thing that I did that I wish I hadn't was make the toes static. As I was building the for the first foot I ended up making the ankle articulatefront, back, left and right. Now I just wish I had made the toes bend too. Now there are just fake hinges on the toes. Oh well, next time. At some point I wanna make a Gargant, so I figure this will be a good learning experience.

Since APOC came out I have been trollin the internet collecting pics of other people's stompas for inspirationAnyway, I can not wait to see your's!

some nice work there, hopi.

mine is currently on hold while we wait to see whether the GW Stompa is real (mid 2009?) or mere rumour. And because I'm expecting to be building 60 stormboyz in a couple of months

Btw how do you make those "bolts" from plasticard?
