I want to do a boat for my Imperial guards and I don't know what to start with... I'm thinking about a LCM - "Landing Craft Mechanized", something very "saving private Ryan". Did any of you did this?

There was an issue of WD that had boats in it.. I don't know which but I think it came out around when the WFB General's Compendium was released and there were all kinds of WFB boat articles.
If you want the saving private ryan open top type, you could maybe use a chimera, just taking the bottom and front part Add on the inner side to keep things in place but trim off the edges around the front so it just looks like 1 piece.. and then have a rhino rear door in the back so that the door drops down when it's time to run out onto the beach. Then you could stick some bitz on the walls inside and have a guy with a heavy stubber in the back and maybe a heavy bolter too so you can use chimera rules for it and all

BOth the WW2 Landing Craft and the Vietnam (WIlliams class?) Patrol Boat look and feel very IG to me
The LC could be a modified chimera or even the big Forge WOrld GUy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_craft
The Patrol Boat could be a fasster sentinel like strike boat w a few IG guys on it http://www.army.mil/cmh/books/Vietnam/northern/pic63.jpg

Get a Higgins boat model and put tank treads on it. Or you can get one of the Catachan boats with the heavy bolter on it. The "Apocalypse Now" (PBR)looking one but it had Catachans on it. There are a few good ones out there, but the 1/32d one might be your best bet. The Landing craft has a good amout of models, and they are around the same deal as a Gorgon for the deathkrieg guys. If you wanted to fork over the cash the Gorgon is your best bet.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Posted By Grot 6 on 11/08/2007 1:52 PM Get a Higgins boat model and put tank treads on it. That's been done already. Well, actually, what I did was take a tank and made it look like a Higgins boat on tracks. Still looks vaguely like it could ford rivers or small waterways, for full amphibianity it'd need to have higher sides.

Maybe a 1/35 scale WWII DUKW model? Or that US Marine APC that Sgt. Slaughter used to drive? Or perhaps some kind of hovercraft? Go mess around on the Starship Modelers forum; someone made a sweet hovercraft using pvc piping to make the skirts. It might be a good place to start.
Someone used to make a 1/48 scale vietnam-era ragboat, but damned if I've seen it in 10 years.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |
