Two weeks ago I moved from Florida to North Carolina, Last night I wrote a new list using the models I had for my old Blood Axe Waaagh! Today I went into a new shop and played a match against another ork player; me with the new rules, him with the old rules (EDIT: 2000 points).

My army list:

- Warboss RedGob w/ PK, Cybork, Bosspole, 'Eavy Armor. (attached to Nobs)

- Warphead (attached to big Boyz mob)

- 10 Burna Boyz (carried in Skorcha Wagon)

- 8 Lootas

- 6 Tankbustas w/ 3 Squigbomms

- 8 Nobs w/ 'Eavy Armor, 2 PK's
Battlewagon w/ Kannon, Deffrolla, Stikkbomm Chucka, Grot Riggas, Armor Plates

- 12 Boys
Nob w/ PK, Bosspole
Trukk w/ Rokkit, Stikkbomm Chucka

- 12 Boys
Nob w/ PK, Bosspole
Trukk w/ Rokkit, Stikkbomm Chucka

- 30 Boys w/ 3 Big Shootas
Nob w/ PK, Bosspole

- 10 Gretchin
Runtherd w/ grot-prod

- 2 Warbuggies w/ Rokkits

- Looted Wagon (ex-Looted Russ) w/ Boomgun, 2 Big Shootas, 'Ard Case, Armor Plates, Grot Riggas

- Looted Wagon (ex-Looted Hellhound) w/ Skortcha, Big Shoota, Armor Plates, Grot Riggas

- Looted Wagon (ex- Looted Bassie) w/ Boomgun, Big Shoota, Grot Riggas\

Don't have the exact details on his army, but this is what I remember:

- Warboss w/ PK, Cybork (attached to Skarboys)
- two 20-strong Skarboyz mob

- 20-strong boyz mob

- 1 more Ork mobs with about 15-20 Boyz

- 2 Trukk Boyz mobs, both with a Nob in Mega-Armor

- 30-grot Gretchin mob

- 6 Killer Kans in 2 squads w/ Rokkits

- 1 Dread

- 8 Boy Kommando mob w/ Burna

Here's how the deployment looked (sorry for the fuzzy pics - phone camera):

I won first move, here's the highlights:

Turn 1

Me (New Skool): Warphead Waaagh! My Boyz surged forward and between the Buggies and the Skorcha Wagon, took the sneaky gits (Kommandos) to task, killing 5 or so of 'em.

Him (Old Skool): Our 2 Trukk Squads squared off on the left flank! The Rokkit on one of his his Trukks managed to destroy one of my Trukks! Luckily I rolled a 5 and my Boy jumped out unharmed.
His Kans surged forward and tried to light-up my big Boyz mob, missed, but his other squad, shook a Warbuggy.

Turn 2

Me: The Warphead Waaaghs again! My buggies killed a kan, and the Lootas immobilized another. A Rokkit on one of my Trukks Immobilized one of his, and my Tankbustas finished off his Kommandos.

Him: His remaining mobile Trukk arrived close enough to drop its Boyz close enough to drench my Boyz in burna and slugga shots, then Waaagh! His double initiative is still a force to reckon with, and he wiped the floor with my boyz - only my Nob managed to get his attacks off before his Nob gutted him!

On the right flank, the 3 Kans assaulted into my Boys, with little effect, other than the killing of a Boy when my Nob rolled a 5 and a 6 for his penetration roll, causing one to explode.

Turn 3

Me: Warphead Rolls a 6 again! WAAAGH!!!!

My Looted "Russ" Rolled a 1 for it's 'Don't Press Dat!' and it shot forward into the Kan fight, but since the rules say you can't Tank Shock your own guys, we ruled that my boys just move out of the way (see pic below).

The Burnas in my Skorcha Wagon Jumped out and sprayed 10 templates of burny goodness (plus the Skorcha) into his Trukk mob, killing all but the Nob (thanks to his Mega-Armor), sending him running like a git and causing a glancing hit on his Trukk.

My 2nd mob of Boyz gets their trukk stuck in difficult terrain, so they dismount, move 6" and Waaagh move past one Trukk mob and Assault the other, their Furious Charge is enough to take out all but a few of his Boyz, which ran.

The Battlewagon moves forward and Redgob and his Nobz hurl themselves out into one of his Skarboyz mobs, leaving only 3 or 4 to run away to mob-up with the other Skarboyz. My Boyz consolidate to the flank of his Skarboys.

The Kan fight continues, He's unable to kill my Warphead, and my Nob's only penetration bounces off his Armor Plates.

Him: His Warboss and Skarboyz launch themselves into my Boss's mob, but not before letting his Grot squad and Boyz unload their blastas and Sluggas! Killing about 2 of my Nobz. His Assault from the Grots and Skarboyz finishes the Nobs before they can fight back, but our Warbosses square off Power Klaw to Power Klaw, and kill each other! His Boys manage to consolodate into the right flank of my like of Burna Boys, keeping them from taking more revenge. Gah!

Turn 4

Me: Yet a 4th WAAAGH!!!! from the the Warhead! Losin' me Warboss and Nobz makes me break out the Deffrolla and The Battlewagon runs over 6 Grots, ensuring that it's well-greased to take on the Ork mob behind it. The rest of his Grots run away, packing tightly between my BW and his Skarboys, so I ran forward with the Skorcha Wagon and roasted 13 Gretchin -gotta remember to bring BBQ sauce next time!

My Boyz assault his Skarboyz and again, the Furious Charge rule ensured that I take a chunk out of his mob. Two of the three leading Burnas are killed.

On the right flank, the Kan finally took down my Warphead.

Him: Seeing that his remaning Skarboys had to take on a dozen Boyz, plus 8 Burnas, he conceeded with a smile that the New Orks are much better than the Old ones, conceeded defeat, and told everyone that he's looking forward to the new 'dex.

End First Game

The Next Battle I fought was an Omega-level Recon mission with a Chaos player, who used a couple Rhinos (in that 'Rhino Wall' deployment) to block my Battlewagon, but I crashed into it in order to unload RedGob and the Nobz who wiped out a terminator Chosen squad. It Brought up a discussion on whether the Deffrolla caused a hit on the Rhino or simply pushed it out of the way, we opted for the latter with the hope that GW will clear this up in the future

The Warphead, Lootas, Tankbustas, and Burnas didn't do much in this one, one of his 2 Land Raiders popped the Skorcha Wagon, killing 8 Burnas, and finishing off the other 2 with his Beakies.

I ended up attaching the Warphead to the Tankbustas when they came in, but all he did was managed 2's and 3's with a 1 that wounded him, but he and the lootas were sloggin' and too far way from the fight to do any good.

Bottom Line

Everyone agreed that the Boyz bring the pain while leaving the cheese at home. The Battlewagon and it's Deffrolla was definetly a force to be reckoned with, especially if it turns out to cause a hit on enemy vehicles.

Furious Charge is incredible. They Boyz might not be guaranteed to hit first, but who cares when you have 30? And they now have some punch with the +1 strength!

The Warphead was a good investment. Didn't do much in the the second fight, but oh well. Admittedly it makes more sense, that with the possibility that he might send the Boyz deepstriking, to put him in with a shooty mob and not with 'Slugga Boys'.

Burnas are definetly a good investment with a transport, and putting them in a Skorcha Wagon and letting loose with 11 templates is oh so much fun, AND propa! Gonna have to do some cuttin' on my Hellhound to make it look open-topped, however.

In the future I might drop the Boomgun from one Wagon and put the Tankbustas in them and see if they are worth it. Otherwise, I could add a 'Ard Case to my Bassie model, or better yet, drop the 2 mobs of Boyz in Trukks and a Looted Wagon in favor of a second Battlewagon (with a Deffrolla) and put a bigger mob of 20 Boyz in it; A bigger punch for less points.

Pics to follow.

Cool report. I was playing at a different table and didn't get to check out how the game progressed. I'm originally from Jacksonville, FL, but have been living in Fayetteville for 4 years now (my name is Charlie). Deployments have kept our gaming group a bit small of late, but tourneys will bring out a good number of players; The Hobbit draws @ 30 players for 40K and the next one is in February.

Cool to see the new Codex in action. I don't think Ork players will be disappointed at all. BTW, from the way it reads, I'm thinking you should have gottent the S10 hits on the Rhino wall...

Welcome and hope you enjoy gaming in NC.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Thanks. I re-read the rules and it should've inflicted d6, S10 hits on both Rhinos in the way. Man, I may run 2 BW's now.

Soooo jealous of the deffrolla, my chaos boys are just waiting to attach giant crushing death to their rhinos & land raider

Fun report for a great throwdown. New orks definitely seem like a force to be reckoned with, and/or just plain good fun.

One more thing, people are complaining about the loss of choppas, but the sheer weight in Boys makes up for it. In the second game vs. Chaos, my large Boyz squad took down a squad of 8-10 Berzerkers, followed by another 5 Slaaneshi Raptors! The fact was that he could not inflict enough wounds to ensure that I couldn't fight back (especially once we piled in), and the Nob made Chaos Fritters with his power Klaw. That set the tone for my Boyz, because my Trukk mob also put down a Troops squad, and his Sorcerer. Only his assaulty Chose squad managed to wipe-out out my other Trukk squad in CC.

Interested to see how they do against 'Nids. I'd love to see what a Deffrolla does to a Carnifex.

People who whine that haven't run the numbers. Point-for-point Boyz are better in combat now then before.

Cool report, I enjoyed it.
