I'm updated and I'll try a reboot or something later. Any ideas
what could be messing up?

I get 403 errors whenever I try to follow a link.

I use Firefox and everything's working fine for me.

Now it let me see things only if I hit reload on Firefox. And even then,
it doesn't allow me into normal Dakka. The text is regular font, and there
are no stylesheets applied.

Oh, and Internet Explorer did the following odd thing:

There's always one

The server has some pretty strict denial of service protection which means if you hit it too much, too hard you get a temporary block. That block will lead to 403 errors for anything you request for a little while. Since you managed to hit that limit (and I hit it once during testing), I will double it and see how it goes. Let me know if you get the 403s again. The other error sounds like it would have been a symptom of that as it will affect any requests from your machine.

Thanks and let me know if it happens again.

It is working. The question is, though, how do I change my
Firefox settings so that it doesn't trip the Bat-Alarm?

I still bump into 403 every few clicks. But at least I can post now.

There's something going on with my firefox. Images load really slowly,
whereas with IE everything is lightning. So I want to readjust Firefox
so that it runs as smoothly as Internet Explorer (which I mostly
avoid using as much as possible).

You mentioned on the old forum that you had strangeness happen with the theme there too. Sounds like your firefox is a bit unwell. The new site has been developed entirely on firefox and we have not had any serious errors like you describe. Try reinstalling the latest version of firefox from: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ and if that does not work then go to about:config in your location bar and see if any things are non-default (like maximum number of connections, etc). See http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config for more info on about:config

How do I reset Firefox's image cache? It doesn't seem to be
caching the images properly and trying to reload them in
every single instance.

hmm that would probably (rightly so) still trip the denial of service limits. To reset your cache settings in firefox (depends on the version but in the latest...)
tools - options - advanced - network - 'Clear Now'
and make sure the 'Cache' setting is a decent size. 500MB is a good amount (the higher you set it, the faster your internet connection will feel anyway).

Firefox safe mode still gets me 403 errors too from time to time.

I have pushed back the tripwire as far as I can safely put it now. If it happens again (as soon as you see 403), then you need to wait for about 15 minutes before doing anything or you will continue to get 403 errors. Let me know how it goes.

The difference between IE and Firefox.

When I load Dakka on IE, there's a short pause then everything
displays. All graphics load, even the Avatars.

When I load Dakka on Firefox, everything loads slowly as each
image loads. Eventually it gives up and instead of posting Avatars,
even Avatars that higher up on the page, it posts the placeholder
words AVATAR. Also, images that repeat themselves such as the
Forum Read image do not automagically load throughout the code.
It's like it's processing everything each time I load a page.

Upping my cache size to 500MB increased the load speed and
reduced the frequency of 403 errors, but I need to know how to
fix it so that Firefox behaves properly... It doesn't just happen on
Dakka Dakka, but on other forums and websites as well.

Try deleting your firefox profile:

To delete a Firefox browser profile:

1. If any Firefox browsers are open, close them now.
2. Open the Firefox Profile Manager:

On Windows(R)
1. Open the Windows Start menu and select Run...
2. Type firefox.exe -profilemanager and click OK. The Firefox - Choose User Profile dialog opens.

3. Select the profile.
4. Click Delete Profile...
5. Click Exit to close the Firefox - Choose User Profile dialog.

Assuming you have already reinstalled firefox too (if not then do so).

Reloading firefox will give you a fresh version.

Woah, that seemed to do it. It's performing like IE now.

So maybe once upon a time I changed something and it screwed things up?
