When will Yak's photo system be usable? As in storing pictures here on Dakka and not needing an outside storage site?

Just asking.

from what I understand the feature is already available. Just think of your post as your gallery for that image at the moment.

Yep, it's working right now. Just make a post and attach up to 30 photos in it. You can then directly link to those photos anywhere on the net.

If you're having trouble figuring out the address to use to directly link to your photos let me know and I'll help you out.

So if we paste in a URL the image is copied rather than hotlinked?

OK didn't see the attachments link. Next question, once I attach files how can I format the whole post?

In that particular post all the pictures will be at the bottom of the post. However, you can enter a description for each picture which will appear in the post.

Once the post is made, you can then link to those existing pictures into other posts.

Feel free to make a 'photo-dump' thread for yourself in the modeling forum if you want and then just keep adding more replies to that thread with more and more attached pictures.

might this be a good time to add a forum or sub forum for photodumps?

I was just thinking that. But I'm not entirely sure since eventually it will dissapear when users can eventually upload directly to the gallery.

I guess I could just move all those threads into the modelling forum at that point.

How long until gallery will be online? If it's not long then it really shouldn't become too huge of an issue. Plus it seems that the only folks using the function are modelers so far anyways and only really for current projects.

It's going to be a few months at least, but I will be starting a 'photo-dump' forum to tide us over until that point.

Also, I'll be posting a forum FAQ which should answer most people's questions and make everyone more comfortable with using attachments.

Might I also suggest making "Poll", "Options", and "Attachments" buttons instead of text links? Along the lines of the 'post reply' and 'post topic' buttons to really catch the posters eye. Right now they're a little lost in the sea of the composition page.

Small picture bug (well possibly a bug >.&gt. When posting multiple photos through attachments, the last picture is the first in the post and they work back up to the first attachment, instead of just going down the line.

Ok, Update to the 'attachment order bug'.

Looks like the software is just uploading everything at once and whatever gets finished first is the first photo to be displayed in the post. My photodump was all kinds of out of order this time around.

Another issue

Editing the Attachment descriptions is making them not show up anymore. Was going back to appropriately describe my photodump post and they're gone now...

Yeah this is a minor glitch with the post editing. If you have an attachment then the attachment may vanish when you edit a post. It wont be gone forever though, it is just the cache, so when the cache clears (after a random amount of time), the descriptions will return. Editing the post again immediately after editing the first time might be a workaround for this, and until we get the fix up it can be overridden by an admin too.

Whoops, Meant that the photos themselves stopped showing up. Is the fix the same?

Yeah same problem, the photos and descriptions both vanish until the cache updates, or until an admin manually refreshes the cache or (possibly) until you edit the thread again. If editing does not work, then I think if you post a follow up message in the thread it will force the previous messages to update too. This is being fixed now but will be a little while before we release it (along with all the other fixes) due to testing and new features we are adding at the same time.
