4th edition is just 1st/2nd edition with a bigger board. apparently they have not gone into any real depth with the game trying to change or fix things. If they admit that themselves, that players with the same unchanged rules issues should use the same old house rules as were popular in the 80's.
This doesnt really help as the game is for children and is a boardgame not a wargame. Vies on house rules for childrens boardgames range from a cop out to cheating, although back in the 80's there was no internet concensus. However the games producers (dont think I should say developers) are justified in an 'aint broke dont fix it' attitude, particularly with a nostalgia game.
They havent fundamentally changed anything except the artwork, so it will be a very good game. While it revolves around rolling sixes and even more revolves around lucky draws from the deck that is not unusual or unwlecome in its genre. Strategy is only gently touched on; just sufficient to give you the impression you had something to do with the fact you won and the other guy didnt, but random enough that whether adult or child, anyone can play and have a good chance of taking the crown of command.
All in all a bigger board, and it is a much bigger board, will be welcome, and while I prefer the light toned artwork of the first edition 4th will come to have its adherents.
