We talked about this a few years ago, and I don't think we had a great solution.

Anyone have any ideas on how to model orks with german helmets?

I'd do a couple of Tamiya (or someone else) 1/35 scale helmet german equipment sets.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I remember considering that as an option. I also recall it not being a cheap option, haha!

Edit: $6 for each set. So doable.

How does that size up next to an ork?

They look like the RT book orks with them on. Add a couple of horns to them and they look great. I did this to a few of my Nobz a while back.
You have to scratch them up, add some additional battle damage to them, then paint them boltgun metal with black wash on them for a good look.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Nah, I'll paint them grey, like z-germans wore.

The only question is, do I have the nads to mark them with sworksticas. (I do not).

It'd be pretty characterful for a bloodaxe themed list. Or just any ork army's storm boyz. It would look much more orky if you gave them a ww1 spike on top. Neat idea.

The WWI spike is a definite.

I'm thinking that I'll do all of the walking boyz and vehicles as german themed, and the bikes, stormboyz, and koptas as japanese. I've got some nifty conversions for samurai orks I put in my fantasy army, and this way I can keep the R&D I did for that from going to waste.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

The are orks so they will go how you want, but it you want a theme stick with plain second world war german helmets. The spike will look odd, it only applied to early WW1 helmets. The later world war one helmet looked familiar and didnt have a spike, but did have two nuts sticking out on the top sides for the strapping. The second world war helmet was more refined and lacked those.

If you want the spiked helmet then Kaiser era orks with steampunk tech would fit better. Jodphurs, duelling scars, stiff collars and monocles are mandatory.

Orks dont nazify too well. If you want to go that route you are better off with marines or Guard. The Imperium is pretty much on a moral par with the Third Reich after all. However german helmets do fit very well as Hells Angel biker orks - perfect for Goffs. In fact some GW models have in the past used German helmets, the limited edition 'sleazy rider' for example.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Mauleed, you need to greenstuff some prussian moustaches on them too.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.
