so i play a pretty terminator heavy army ( in 1850 i play 15 termis )

normally its 2x 5 man squads w/ 2 Ass cans
and a libby w/ 4 man ret w/ 2 Ass cans

now ive had some luck deep striking them behind enemy lines (especially against fish tau)
but i have also had some very bad deepstriking issues....losing models to terrain/enemy models

so ive also tried teleport homers on a jump chappy/assault marines but they never end up behind the enemy by the time my termis come out ....

so my question is... what is, in your opinion, the best way to play termis?? and should foot slogging them even be an option??

What does the rest of your 1850 point force with 15 Terminators look like? I'd like to know that before attempting to give any advice...

Also, while I love Terminators, the background, the models (especially the new plastics) and the "look and feel" of IC's in Terminator armor.

Unfortunately, the play doesn't quite measure up to the fluff.

And, given the way in which the wind's been blowing lately (the treatment of Terminators in the DA and BA codices - that is, limited to 5 man squads with one heavy weapon), their usefulness is about to go down a notch or two.

When the "redux" and/or 5th edition 40K hits, I'm afraid the recent glory days (!) for Terminators will be over...

Footslogging is most certainly an option against some armies. Particularly ones which don't pack much AP2 firepower (like Tyranids), and against whom the extra turn or two of assault cannon shots will help (Tyranids, Orks, Eldar). Tank Hunter can also be hugely useful against skimmer armies, like Eldar and Tau. Do you use it already?

oh yes my main advisarys are mech eldar and fish tau... thats why im so fond of the ass cannon tank hunters spam

i also run 2 v. dreads with tank hunters

my main concern is dropping the libby without a teleport homer...367 pts of libby w/ ret falling off the board/getting terrain killed sucks....but i dont see how useful fear of the darkness is if i cant DS close enough to use it ??

I've never had a problem deepstriking to use it. Just put the libby so that the outer ring will be ~1.5" away from the closest enemy unit and usually if you scatter, you'll scatter over them.

Um, it looks like that thread already contains the answer to your woes: pods. You won't ever lose a Termie to terrain or landing on an enemy again.

Pods are nice, but they force your terminators to start in reserve, which isn't always where you want to be. I put my librarian's squad in a pod sometimes, but I usually keep the rest of my terminators flexible.

Reserves isn't an issue since he's already teleporting them.

Pods are the answer to your woes, as has already been pointed out.

that sounds like a good idea ... i sorta thought putting a deepstrikable unit in a drop pod was a waste of pts... but it makes sense thats the best way to get the libby close without having to worry about scattering poorly... im going to rewrite my list

Try it out, I think you'll be pleased. Saving points on the pod is, in your case, a false economy, since the losses you say you're regularly taking far outweigh the cost of the pods.

i see how you are correct the average termi in a squad is almost 50 pts and a drop pod is only 30 so if i lose just 1 model its more than the pod

you can also do fun LoS tricks with pods. getting to put new terrain on the board where you want it can be really nice.

If codices follow the BA/DA example, then AP2 weaponry will actually be more expensive and rarer so while the firepower of termies goes down, the survival rate goes up! It will be interesting for termie and vehicle heavy armies.

I have had good tactical success running my termie retinue in a LR and coordinating a second deep striking termie squad in my mechanized vanilla marine army. They are shooting platforms and highly effective when used properly (maximizing their range and getting more than 1 round of shooting). If you are deepstriking a librarian and 2 assault cannons close to the enemy to take advantage of fear of the darkness, the best you can hope for is one turn of shooting. Try getting that second round rending volley out there and you will be happy with the results.
