Ollanius Pius - Savior of the Emperor

Gathering the Informations.

The rundown:
The left hand decal(spade) is the unit designator. In this case, it's the anti-tank unit. The right hand decal is the army designator. That'll be repeated all over the Sentinels and the Russes, and even the Baneblade squadron that's in the works.

Allrighty, the photos are down since I went back and did the missile on the Sentinel black, and the armor on the spotter(helmet is all he's wearing really ) the new army color. I'll get new photos later, but I'm beat right now.

Are you using the flash on your camera? The photos are hard to distinguish much in the way of details because of the lighting.

My only suggestion right now would be to touch up the side of the base by removing any flock that is on it and be sure it's a solid color. A lot of people tend to fudge this simple step up and their models suffer from it.

Yeah, I have to wait on the base while I fix up some more of the color I used. And yeah, I think the flash was on but it was late taking the photos so I'll just have to make some better ones later

I would agree with Grey Death that making sure your base edges are clean and fully painted really helps to make the model look more "finished".

Also, I'd highly suggest hitting those blue sections with a blue ink, it will look really cool.

Besides that, its a good start. I wouldn't say you have the cleanest looking paint scheme and it doesn't appear your doing any highlighting or edging (although I could be wrong, the pictures are hard to see with the flash) but making a Guard army means you often have to cut corners to get all the models finished, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you do want to go with a better looking (but longer to paint model) the keys IMO for this type of paint scheme are:

1) Edging. Pick a lighter color (like a grey) and gently paint all the panel edges. That will help the actual dimensions of the vehicle stand out from the camo pattern which tends to confuse the eye.

2) When painting a camo pattern, the real key is to pain an intermediate color between the two camo patterns. So if you are using a light green and a dark green you want a really thin strip of black, different shade of green, etc in between where the two camo colors come together. This technique is what really the difference between a sharp or blah looking camo pattern on a model.

Either way, keep it up and I look forward to more pics.

Definitely better, but the white on that missile looks really rough and unfinished.

White is a tricky color to paint and I think you'd be much better off going with a grey or black scheme for those missile heads and fins (just my opinion of course).

Yeah, your first set of pics has gone offline. Have you considered attaching your pictures to the thread instead of direct linking?

That way Dakka is hosting your pics and you don't have to worry about them ever going down.

PRODUCTIVITY!
All of the lascannon sentinel squadron is done, the support sentinels are getting their camo painted on right now, and a heavy weapons team is done in the infantry color scheme, WITH camo.
Pics coming later when my mom's boyfriend leaves!

YAY PRODUCTIVITY!
Heavy weapons team from the heavy weapons platoon done up in the camo scheme infantry will be having. I was inspired by General Steiner over at Warseer(props to Steiner on the idea of flatout camo done all over!)
Baneblade's turret, the Baneblade's body is done but the sponson weapons aren't done all the way.

Now, here's my issue. Should I use an actual numbering system, or use a single insignia on the left hand shoulderpad as the regimental identifier?

I would take a numbering system. It will look more professional imho.

See, I was looking into the insignia since I have no "215" decal and my handpainted numbers kind of look like...crap.
But after discovering today from my hobby shop owner that Testors made a decal creation kit, I think that's going to be done Gonna have to copy the campaign badge for the right hand shoulderpad(the fist clenching the lightning bolt), so that'll be fun!

Can't wait to see your insignias and numbers. They are always the finischingtouc to armies in my opinion.

I hear ya on the handpainted numbers.

Good work with a nice camo scheme seems as if it will be tank-tastic!

As a fan of Sentinels, i really like yours and what you did with the missile launcher. Great job, by the way is the copper color you used tin bitz because I liked how it came out on the sentinels and I might try it. Thanks.
