Hey guys!

For my first post to the forums, I thought that I should ask a few questions on a couple of army lists that I've been thinking of for everyone's favorite soulless cronies, my army of choice.

To clear a few things up, I don't have any tournament experience whatsoever, although I'd like to start playing in tournies once I get everything I have painted. So, for the most part, I play pretty low point cost games with a couple of friends. I've read some of the necron army list threads that came up with the search feature, so I think I have a pretty good idea as to what is worth taking and what is utter garbage.

I've heard that most of the tournaments are 1850 pts or more, so let's start with the list I've planned for that point range. (I'm not sure weather I should include the exact point costs for the models but if it would break any copyright laws or something along those lines, I'll be sure to remove them asap. I just like the layout for army lists that have point costs included as well.)

HQ:
Necron lord with Veil and orb -200 pts.

Total HQ costs: 200 pts.

Troops:
10X Necron Warriors -180 pts.
10X Necron Warriors -180 pts.

Total Troops costs: 360 pts.

Elites:
10x Immortals - 280 pts.
10x Immortals - 280 pts.
10x Immortals - 280 pts.

Total Elites costs: 840 pts.

Fast Attack:
3X Destroyers - 150 pts.
3x Destroyers - 150 pts.
3x Destroyers - 150 pts.

Total Fast attack costs: 450 pts.

Total Army cost: 1850 pts.

The army has 60 necron models, so phase out would be at 15 models or less.

Now, as I said I have no idea how this list would do in a competitive environment, but from what I've read, the units should work well when massed together. If the list needed to be upgraded to 2000 points, I'd probably throw in three more destroyers to make it an even 2000.

So, any advice for improvements? Should I include a monolith somehow for the extra WBB rolls and the possibility of escaping CC, or some sort of a better counter assault unit? How would this list fare against other competitive lists?

I also made a list for friendly games of 1500 points or less. It's not supposed to be a competitive list and I use it primarily against some friends wielding eldar, tyranids and tau. However, if the tournaments in my area happen to be 1500 points or less I'd like to use something like this list if it has any tournament value whatsover. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated.

HQ:
Necron Lord - 100 pts.
Wargear:
-Veil of Darkness - 60 pts.
-Resurrection orb - 40 pts.

Total HQ: 200 pts.

Troops:
10x Necron Warrior - 180 pts.
10x Necron warrior - 180 pts.

Total troops: 360 pts.

Fast Attack:
3x Destroyers - 150 pts.
3x Destroyers - 150 pts.
3x Destroyers - 150 pts.

Total Fast Attack: 450 pts.

Heavy support:
Monolith - 235 pts.

Total heavy support: 235 pts.

Elites:
9X Immortals - 252 pts.

Total Elites: 252 pts.

Total army cost: 1497 pts.

With 39 models that have the necron special rules, we're looking at phase out at 9 models or less.

So again, anything that this list is lacking in? Are there any newbie mistakes in the list that I didn't catch earlier? Again, help is appreciated.

I've already got most of these models painted to some extent (except some immortals), so I could take this list to compete much faster than the other one assuming that there are low point cost tournaments in my area.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and a "thank you" to all replies in advance.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Yopu should double the number of basic Necron warriors. 2x20 is normal, 2x10 is too few.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Orlanth, which list are you referring to?

I don't really know if lots of warriors are the way to go, considering how many str 8 attacks most armies have. I much prefer both destroyers and immortals for their Toughness 5, meaning that they can hold their own pretty well even without a res orb. Warriors do increase the phase out count considerably, though but it seems kind of silly to take swarms of them when I could have the more resilient immortals that also have a longer effective range (two shots to 24" against the warriors' one) and str 5 ap 4 weapons. Destroyers on the other hand are invaluable thanks to their amazing 48" effective range and str 6 weapons, enough to instakill Autarchs and Farseers! (Not to mention wound budget 'fexes on 4+...)

I also read a few battle reports, and thought that I should get some heavy destroyers against Av 2+ lists. Any imput on how heavy D's rank up to the normal Destroyers?

I guess I should playtest the immortals a bit more against lots of warrior to see how they match up.

Thanks for the imput!

I really disagree that "2x20 is normal." I rarely see Necron lists with that many Warriors, and those I've seen on the tabletop haven't fared too well. Warriors are a weak link, IMO. Having to field 2x10 is already a burden.
