I've seen multiple referecnes to people putting an autarch with shining spears so he can hit and run, or with swooping hawks so he can pogo. However, I was under the impression that the unit abilites were not passed on to IC's that join the squad. So is there an exception to the autarch?

Yeah, the Autarch is the exception that proves the rule, given special exemption by the codex.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

For what its worth, GW points out the Autarch benefits from Squad powers in its "Autarch Tactica" in the Eldar section of their website as well.

Unfortunately when in CC, are the HQ and the Fast unit not considered two different units, who do not benefit from each other?
The Autarch would be stuck when the Spears leave the party?

Not allways a bad thing, but it could be.

I suggest you reread the CC rules. There is a specific section of the phase wherein an IC is treated as a separate unit; after that, he reverts to whatever his status would be otherwise.

Essentially the IC's are only seperate units for close combat.

You'll note the IC cannot actually leave the squad at any point during said CC...and if it leaves, he goes with it.

If he didn't have H&R, the unit couldn't leave...and neither would be able to.

Hope that clears things up a bit.
