Due to some issues that have cropped up I have had to start the voting for the 2007 TGN Reader's Choice Awards a bit early. Most of the categories were trimmed or padded to 15 nominees. The sci-fi and fantasy categories were the exception. There were far too many nominees to make trimming the list down to 15 very satisfying for everyone so there are more than 20 nominees in each of those categories.

Voting in this round will trim the list of nominees down to a top 5. Starting December 8th those top five will go into a second round of voting to determine the winner in each category.

Follow the links below to cast your vote.

Great idea, is the first time you've done it?

EDIT - I see some things that could be improved. First off the images should really, really be on the page where we vote, opening 15 other windows (some blocked in Red China... thank you Chairman Mao) is a bit of a hassle. Also the options to vote are not in the same order as the links, so if I just remember that I liked the 3rd one down and click on that I'll be voting for the wrong one.

That being said, great selection, good to see hardly any GW in there and a real recognition of what other companies are doing.

No reaper fantasy though?

They are, in fact, ordered from current first to last ranking, right? Now that's kinda ... funky ...

And I'm with Kyoto-san on the 15 windows per page, I'm actually suprised I looked at all the models and didn't scoot through lazily. Was a slow Saturday I suppose.

I should also have said it before, but - sooooooo many boobs in the top 3 categories made things a little tough

Just a couple days left folks.

Be sure to vote!

As an aside, I really dont see how classic battletech is on the new games this year. but good for it to have overwhelming votes I suppose....

Sci-fi: Kolony Militia
Fantasy: Harvard the Half-seen
Pulp: Bronze Age "not-Green Martians" (Mutants)
Historical: Black Scorpion's Mad Jim Jones
Terrain: Zuzzy terrain mat (though I have not bought one yet)
Game: AT-43

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

It is for the Classic BattleTech Introductory Starter Set that was released at Gen Con Indy this year.

BTW, round 2 voting has now started :-)

Its pretty clear to me that many of the voters have felt spurned by GW for one reason or another and have certainly takent that bias into the voting with them.

Either that, or my tastes are waaaay different than everyone elses (which is possible).

DRAT! AT-43 got pushed out of 5th place! :(

I voted for Dark Age Essence. By far the best of the five there now.

Battle tech....dumb. A rehash win best game? Its not THAT good.

Nor is it new....

There is now way in hell that apocalypse should be voted as a top five best expansion for this year.

"Go ahead and take what you want, and use a few new strategems" doesnt make a revolutionary expansion, no matter how popular it may be.
but thats just like....my opinion, man.

But who said anything about the expansion having to be revolutionary? I think Apocalypse has a very nice presentation (great book, great pictures), lots of content and definitely provides a different format to play games of 40K. I'm not saying it was the best expansion of the year, but I definitely think it was in the top five.

Remember that TTGN isn't exactly White Dwarf. My sense of the site is
that it's where people go (along with The Miniatures Page) to get info on
miniature lines beyond GW. People in this crowd (translation: I'm being
egocentric and talking about myself primarily) don't want to vote for an
expensive model kit that has some assembly issues and a giant footprint
that's mostly designed for a sub-game.

I think that a lot of the drooling over Baneblades is that they're big tanks.
I can't explain the Battletech thing, though. Maybe what's happening is that
the huge list of games allows people to gather a voting bloc to specialize in
voting in specific models. What I like about the Gauntlet (the mini compared
to the Baneblade) is the schematic diagram. The actual miniature is kinda
"meh".

Also, the GW vote was split between Baneblade and Death Korps of Krieg
Quartermaster.

I can only Chalk the votes for CBT to be nostalgia. I haven't seen the new release, and I don't know if they dealt with some of the issues that kept BT from being a truly great game (mostly streamlining armor hits, heat, and balance issues with clan tech). Regardless, my guess is there's a lot of people/Luddites out there who voted for Battletech as a vote for an old game coming back from the dead and who want to see it whup up on all the whippersnappers.

Good points and while I may not agree with your view of the Baneblade (I was and am still impressed they pulled off a plastic of that size that well) I can understand where you're coming from.

I won't get that Gauntlet miniature love though . That mini just screams 80s to me.

I might have to try Infiniti. They have a pretty unique style in their minis...and their fans seem rabid enough to make me think the game might be good...

The initial voting this year was going to be on a list of 15 minis that the staff at TGN had picked and there was a gallery for each category with photos of each nominee. There was a general hue adn cry that people wanted to nomiate the products as well and so the old nominees and the gallery were scrapped and open nominations were done. Hence no photo gallery.

Talk to the people that did the nominations :-)

Its a web based popularity contest. What do you expect? ;-)

Next year the awards are going to be *much* different and will be a juried award with, I am hoping, a ten member panel.

Its a game system that has been published and played for over twenty years and there are a lot of fans of the game and they are very well organized.

Indeed. TGN doesn't really focus on GW products because they don't need any help to promote their games and minis.

And oddly enough despite asking them for years I can't get anyone at GW's PR department to send me any press releases. Its kinda stupid really. We get more news from the web guys at GW US than we do from GW's PR staff.

GW get tons on press and have their own stores and magazines. One of the aims of TGN is to help promote the smaller manufacturers and games (as well as the hobby in general) who might not necessarily get the exposure that a company like PP or GW do.

There are lots of great games and minis out there and we want to help get the word out about them.

And for the record I think that the Baneblade is bloody cool and I have one that I will be converting to use in my Weird WWII pulp games as a German super-tank :-)

Looks like we dont need to worry about the popularity contest regarding suspicious acts.

the voting has been closed.

Oh well, thanks for atleast trying to give the people a chance to cast their votes in a democratic fashion.

As usual though, politics is rife with scoundrels.
