Me in a minute:

Rough Age: 36

Where am I?: If the name and avatar didn't tip you off, you don't deserve to know.

Absolute favorite book: The Naked and The Dead

Absolute favorite movie: A Midnight Clear

Favorite musical genre: I tend to be very eclectic in my music tastes - so I listen to everything but nu-metal and emo.

Short description of me: I've been described as basically being a mix of the four main characters from Seinfeld.

Other Hobbies than gaming: Playing (very rarely due to time constraints) my Xbox 360 and writing (freelance).

How did I get into the miniatures hobby?: Despite being a RPG player since the latter half of '79 when my brother gave me some D&D stuff - and throwing paint on Ral Partha stuff since the early 80s, I didn't get seriously into miniatures until I walked into a store on South Street some 17 years ago and spied 40K. Bang. That was it.

Games played: I play 40K and related Specialist Games almost exclusively - but I can be talked into a game of Warhammer. I also play the Shadowrun RPG and have since it started.

Armies owned: After 17 years with 40K, I own an insane number of UMs, BTs, IGs, 'Nids, and CSMs. For one reason or another, I've got about a dozen Tau models and 4 Necrons.

Any unusual habits?: I've got bad ones, but nothing unusual.

Anything else interesting and / or strange?: My wife and I have a rather insane amount of house pets. I love the movie Starship Troopers. I think Will Smith is a good actor. I shave my head. I like wearing suit jackets from 2nd hand stores

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell.

Despite reading various 40K forums for years, I've never really had the time to join until now. After reviewing forum after forum - this one seems like the one for me. There are countless ones out there, but most are either moderated by nazis, apparently populated by people who are staff of Games Workshop / know a staff member / were a staff member, dominated by folks who would rather dedicate all of their time on 40K forums bashing the hobby itself / insist on typing in l33t, the forums themselves never seem to be working, or simply have the ugliest layout that I've ever seen.

I'm not an Ork player - "suffer not the xenos to live" and all that, but this seems like a pretty great community. I'm glad to be here.

Funny guy? Glad to have you here. I am a bit of a newbie, both to 'posting' on the Net and Dakka, but it's good.

Mix of the four Seinfeld Characters? Golly.

Shave your head? Gosh

Buy second hand Suit Jackets and wear them with pride? Amazing.

I knew I had an evil twin somewhere.......

Have fun on Dakka, heaps of good info.

I can only assume NZ, so if I'm way off....Dang

Welcome!

A Midnight Clear is a great movie. And it's Gary Sinise's first film, playing "Mother". Sweet.

Will Knott: Griffin was a mortician in civilian life, and he seemed to be spending most of his military life producing work for his army counterparts.

It's thanks to Griffin and his military mortuary skills that I've made my recent headlong leap to three stripes. We lost half our squad, attempting one of his map-inspired, ill-conceived recon patrols. When I say 'lost', I mean 'killed'. Nobody in the army ever admits that someone on our side is killed. They're either lost, like Christopher Robin... hit, as in a batter hit by a pitched ball... or they get 'it' like in hide-and-go-seek. Or maybe they 'get it', as with an ambiguous joke.
