I would say so. that many scarabs will be able to tie up basically anything you want for the entire game, unless it has alot of strength 6 or higher.

Dude, upgraded Scarab swarms are great for tying up infantry of taking out tanks!

Got 20 of the little suckers!

Also some of these (see pics) could be good in apocalypse battles

If you do decide to go with the Scarabs make certain to split them into 3 squads rather than 2.

The Scarabs will eat up enemy shooty infantry, unless it is protected by a power fist. They've got a guaranteed turn 2 charge if they've spread out properly. They can even beat enemy assault infantry if numbers work out right.

The Destroyers, well, you know how they roll.

A good rule of thumb when using Necrons is to leave no FA slot unfilled. How about dropping 5 warriors and getting a group of Scarabs for that third slot? In fact, that big warrior unit doesn't have a monolith to support it, are you sure you don't want to drop it entirely and spend those 360 points on Destroyers, Immortals, Scarabs or the Deceiver?

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

The lack of Monolith is hurting me... I know.

So something like this... ??? I like the range of the destroyers, but I really need defence against CC... so this might work better I think.

Problem is that destroyers are the absolute core and key to success with Necron armies. Scarabs are good but I just don't see more than one squad being worth it if you have to take away destroyers. One good solid large squad of 10 can usually tie up a whole flank giving you time to maximize your firepower.

Echo that FA comment. Fill them up.
My necron magic number is 10! 10 destroyers, 10 scarabs, 10-man immortal squad, 10-man warrior squads. Can't go wrong with that.

War is not your recreation. It is the reason for your existence. Prepare for it well.

I dunno about Destroyers being the absolute core and key to success. One entire Necron victory strategy doesn't even use them. As long as we are talking Offensive crons, you can pretty much switch Immortals and Destroyers without much difference. They are both incredible shooting units.

I think I will run 1 squad of scarabs X10 and 2 squads of 4 destroyers... the fearless scarabs are just to sweet to pass up.
