Weyhay! Boss'mans given the go ahead in the workshop for GT first heat next year so lets design an army!

well, lets go! lets make a fluffy-ish Legion of the damned army.. granted that there isn't much fluff behind the LOTD so lets go through the basic choices first!

Choice (1)
Build the army using Nurgle feel no pain to represent the hardiness of the legion, being dead and all!

Choice (2)
Build the army using your standard marine chapter method, going for Apothecary Sergents & infiltration, which deals with the fact that the legion appears on the battlefield directly from the warp to aid their brethren in battle, on top of that, the apothecary in every squad to give you the ignore first wound taken each turn to convey the fact that the legion are again tough and dead.

obviously the second choice chosen, lets go with a list!

HQ

Sergent Centurious (Commander) 75

Artificer Armour (20), Adamantite Mantle (35), Bionics (5),
Master Crafted - plasma pistol (30), Melta Bombs (5), Power Weapon (15) 185

Chaplain Cordus (Master of Sanctity) 100

Jump pack (20), Power Fist (25), Artificer Armour (20) 165

Fast Attack

Assault Squad - Ferrata 8 Marines 176

Terminator Honours (15), Power Fist (25), Plasma Pistol (5), Plasma Pistol (5) 226

Elite

Terminators - Scythica 5 Terminators 200

Assault Cannon (20), Assault Cannon (20), Tank Hunter (3) 243

Troop

Tactical Squad - Rapax 5 Marines 75

Apothecary (25), Terminator Honours (15), Las Cannon (15), Infiltrate (15) 133

Tactical Squad - Gallicia 5 Marines 75

Apothecary (25), Terminator Honours (15), Las Cannon (15), Infiltrate (15) 133

Tactical Squad - Apollinaris 5 Marines 75

Apothecary (25), Terminator Honours (15), Las Cannon (15), Infiltrate (15) 133

Tactical Squad - Victrix 5 Marines 75

Apothecary (25), Terminator Honours (15), Plasma Cannon (15), Infiltrate (15) 138

Tactical Squad - Adiutrix 5 Marines 75

Apothecary (25), Terminator Honours (15), Plasma Cannon (15), Infiltrate (15) 138

Where ever I am...

It sounds good, but technically this wont be a LOTD army, itll be an army that uses rules to make them like the LOTD...am I right? Are you going to be using LOTD models...or using the recent SM models and adding flames and skulls with green stuff?

When was it cool to not be a Marine?

"Marines has to be hard, they don't love, they feel no fear, they are ready to die for the Emporer and are basically killing machines! It would be hard for the readers to sympathise with the characters....I appreciate this, but unfortunately, thats the Marines!" Delephont

There's the Apocalypse datasheet for them, to give you some idea of what GW thinks of them.

looks awesome - pretty solid.

how are you going to treat the models though?

Personally... and this is just me - I would buy a pack of skulls and greenstuff - and make a whole heap of "ghost rider" heads for them... it would fit with the description in the fluff - spectral flames and bones - the skeletal damned etc. - maybe buy some plastic skeletons (if such exist) from the fantasy range and change some legs and arms - as if it where bionics - but with bones and flame... that could look really good if done properly

use a glaze on the flame areas so they "pop" from the black armor and shine all spectre like.

That is true however there are no 4th edition rules for LOTD, only 2nd edition which work significantly different to our current ed, and especially now that 5th ed is on next years horizon. the list is being built on a base army for safety in the fact/hope that the minor rules governing each army wont be changing drastically enough for me to have to completely butcher the army before next years October GT

Right, i will be using the following, all tactical marines and assault marines will bear the LOTD metal shoulder pad on the right, with either a tactical pad, assault pad, Blood angels skull pad or bare pad with some form of ritualistic scripting on the left!, ill be using all modern models and maybe rogue trader converting modern bolters to look a little more (just post heresy). all models will require a lot of green stuff as im tempted to sculpt ragged front of shoulder top of back cloaks (over one shoulder).

I did something similar with my LOTD, ran 'em as Smurfs since I had to.

Just so you know, the LotD aren't a heresy era force. They're a relatively recent chapter that happened to have a bit of bad luck. So, strictly speaking, the heresy era bolters wouldn't exactly fit. This doesn't mean they wouldn't look cool with them, though.

Well the Legion did get rules in 3rd Edition (Cursed Founding rules in Chapter Approved), and now again with APOC. Neither of which will help you here! I personally might have gone with plague marines for a suitably tough take on them, but 'nilla marines will work too.

Best of luck with the modeling, always great to see LotD armies on the table.
