Just curious, what do you think the weaknessess (if any) are for this gimmicky army? These 30 bikers bunch up and roll on one flank. Farseers try to stay behind the action and just keep the Warlocks fortuned. They'll absolutely demolish tanks and hordes alike, and T4 3+(4+) re-rollable saves aren't too shabby.

HQ:

Farseer
Bike, Fortune, Runes of Warding, Singing Spear

10 Warlocks
Bikes, Embolden, Enhance, 3 Destructors

I'd say drop all the destructors and bring in one unit of shining spears for cool points!

only weakness i see is 4 scoring units. in terms of killyness you'd be very well off.

the shining spears might be a good idea simply for more units and for hit and run if you get stuck in a tarpit.

Spears are also a little cheaper than bike locks. You might be able to squeeze in another 4 man bike squad.

All out of witty one-liners.

Therion,

I have about that many jetbikes at home that I never finished after I realized I was nowhere NEAR good enough to actually play the craftworld: eldar saim-hann army I started build years ago. Jesus, and to think I almost asked my wife to ebay those things off the other day! I'll be building this in February when I get home.

I think this army will suffer from lo-model count issues, of course. Lo # units also a bit scary. Maybe shrink the HQ's a bit to get another unit of bikes??? I mean, putting ten warlocks on bikes in a squad is cool, but is it a bit more than you really would need, may-hap? Also, you'll have to be careful how you come in for the attack, of course. Flames are great on hordes, but you have to get in SO close. Even with the movement in the assault phase to jump away from trouble, you will play hell trying to get away from anything leaping, I would think. And even if you destroy/evade the leaping unit you just nuked, are you out of 18" SOI from their buddies in the unit next to them next player turn? You would have to end you rmovement phase at least 12" away from any other units in his army. If he is playing smaller size units and you don't pick your angle of attack just right (ie: extreme flank), he's gonna lock you in CC and that's 1/4 of your force.

I'm thinking it would win a lot, but you would usually not have a heck of a lot left. Mostly because you don't have a heck of a lot there to begin with. Hmmmmm...

Obviously I am seeing fast bugs as a potential issue. I think hormagaunts will give you fits unless you can mass-exterminate them as soon as you roll up. Unless you have taken out their synapse first, then you can roll the little lead5 buggers right off the board. Mass synapse support will make it more difficult. Marine jumppack armies as well, prehaps, since they are so small in model count. However, I think opinions from more qualified players are definitely in order. Takers?

As soon as I can get my hands on my eldar dex I'm gonna play with this one. This merits

i think you may be overestimating the danger of being caught in CC. if you hit a unit with the destructors, just assault it and use your massacre move to reposition. very few things are going to survive a charge from 10 warlocks.

scarabs would be this unit's downfall though, you'd have to make damn sure that you nailed them with the destructors before they got you in CC.

this list grows on me more and more every time i see a variant of it!

i have play-tested the 10 warlocks on bikes and have discovered that its pretty hard to hide them well enough for the 1 or 2 turns its going to take to get them in position. you kinda have to run smaller squads to up hide-ability (its a word i swear!), or bad things can happen.

i ran 7 warlocks and a seer on a bike in one game, brought it sorta out in the open and next turn my opponent was able to fire 2\3rd of his army at them and take them down. (took like 30-40 saves to do it though!) its a very good idea, but i think 5 is the absolute max you want to run to make them eaiser to hide. a few destructors and spears are all you need, because unless you end up ON the enemy, you will only get 3 or so off anyways..

I ran a army similar to this at the LV GT. I've since improved it, but I don't leave home without the Falcons/Prisms.

They force TP tests, and can really keep someones attention while your bikes move up.

The list isn't bad, but at 1500 points there are alot of armies that can handle your small amount of bikes. S'why I still run vehicles, the bikes have a really hard time--esp against skimmer armies. Genestealers will also hurt your bikes if you run into a TMC or stealer list.

Oh and DE Wych armies own the bikes, btw. You need some shooting at long/medium range to take them out of their transports or you can't go near them.

It's an army only on a conceptual level. I currently run Bike Autarch, 2x Harlies, 1x Dragons, 3x Falcons, and 3x3 Jetbikes with 3 Destrolocks. What does your 1.5K Eldar army look like, and how do you plan to change it when 5th edition hits the shelves? As we all should know by now, rending is going down the toilet, and so is the SMF rule. Since 5th ed is only 6 months away, all army projects should be done with the new rules in mind.

well, unless there's some more definitive news we don't know the extent of the nerf to skimmers. it's just supposition based on the damage table being changed.

Well, I can only surmise from your comments that you aren't playtesting.

Building new armies, well I'm only building my DA which isn't changing but for Sammael's AC. Since his job isn't to shoot but to be shot at, anything he gives me is a bonus.

The only rending units in any of my armies are Genestealers in my Nid army. I've never owned any AC equipped units, don't plan to--I think they're weak.

I use what is my current 1850 Eldar list, minus Fire Dragons and Shining Spears. They add, but aren't the backbone of the army.

Prehaps I am a little over-concerned about them getting tarpitted, you could very well be right. I tried Samm Hain out for a while, and it became a problem for me. That, and I did discover quickly that the larger squads were hard to hide. I've since thought about modeling them at radically different hieghts to help them bunch in closer when hiding behind terrain. Also, in talking to a GW employee a while back (suspect source, I know), he said that the bikes, rules-wise, are supposed to mount on small flying bases, but get shipped with large ones for better model stability. I promptly told him to ship me small bases for ALL my bikes, which he was upset about but complied with. TOld him it wasn't my fault they had model design issues. ANYWAY, I've actually found that they are not all that unstable on the smaller bases. Anyone else try this?

Where is everyone getting all this 5th ed. data? I'm on the far side of the planet right now, so point me to some threads or something? 6 months til it comes out? How reliable is all this (heard it from mother's brother's dog's buddy who's a playtester)?

What smaller bases are you referring to? 25mm? The cavalry bases? The 40mm?

Oh lots of people read what's on warseer and believe it as gospel.

Personally I'm waiting for the day GW drops a lawyer on whichever playtest group is putting the Codices onto torrent sites and posting info.

That said, I'm also waiting for the day when GW stops sending information out to certain blogs. Kind of silly to refuse to playtest things yet allow everyone to see the already-printing-in-China-for-3-months Codex before it's released...which isn't playtesting, that's doing market research. lol

for serious. GW has a huge base of willing and able play testers and yet for some reason prefers to find out that their rules are poorly balanced after publication instead of before.

When there was alot of variety to make different army lists with, people could live with crap rules.

Now with 1 list per book, I don't think people are willing to live with the crap rules.
