Spawn of Chaos

Hey all
I'm constructing a Greenskin Horde (May have already seen me whining or puzzling over all things Orcy :S) and I have not yet managed to get an Orcs and Goblins Army book,I really should get one . Anyway a Night Goblin shaman, can anyone tell me whether he can be mounted on a wolf/Spider or such? and do any penalties come from such a thing being done?
Thanks!

Night goblin shamans cannot be mounted. Doing such a thing (to some mage for which it's possible) doesn't really have any disadvantages except the price increase & poorer line of sight when on his own, if we're talking about just your average wolf/boar mount.

Mounting mages is actually pretty useful in 7th.
In 6th they could be singled out for shooting when attached to an infantry unit. Also, all single characters were protected from shooting when within 5” of a friendly unit of at least 5 models and similar base size. Now that both of those rules are gone, mounts have more value.
Firstly they make the character move faster. Another 7th ed change is that skirmishers (and thus also single characters on foot) can be march-blocked. This makes it harder for characters to run out of their unit someplace safe when it’s threatened. A mount gets around this by increasing the base M substantially. This can also be helpful in making some shorter-ranged spells more useful, particularly against armies which lack shooting.
Second, the mount gives you a 6+ armor save, which is rarely going to save you, but is better than nothing (Though barded chaos steeds give chaos sorcerers a 2+ from their regular 4+!).
The Goblin army which won The Colonial indy GT this year used a regular gobbo shaman in a chariot with the magic item that makes him explode if he dies and wound everyone in base contact. This was a pretty cool combo, as it gives him a decent armor save, gets another chariot into the list without eating a Special slot, and could do substantial damage if the shaman got hunted down by a cavalry unit

On a similar note what about Night Goblin warbosses? I probably would have gone with no they can't but I have seen the Night Goblin Warboss on Giant Squig model so was wondering if they can be mounted on a squig?

Get the book!
Sorry, bud, but the forums aren't supposed to be a replacement for buying the books.
IIRC night gobbo heroes can only ride giant spiders and giant cave squigs, which are both monsters, not regular mounts.
