Subject: Deepstriking chaos terminators for tankkilling

I play against a lot of landraiders and iam looking for a good way to bring them down with my chaos army. I dont want to field 9 obliterators and iam looking for other way's...
What about:
a unit of 2 obliterators and two units of: 3 chaos terminators with combi melta. Deepstriking them close to a tank should do the trick. When deepstriking close to a landraider its possible to scatter either out of range or on the landraider itself. Obliterators can use multi-meltas now so the can afford sum distance.. the chaos terminator have to deepstrike really close but using two units (costing only a little more then a 100 points each) one must be within 6 inch to use its melta 2D6 Armor penetration. If a terminator unit can take down a big expensive tank...I dont care if the get shot to pieces after...
Is this a good tactic...?

I've used it quite a bit with my Chaos army and have had pretty good results with it. It is risky for sure, to make it plausable against 14av vehicles you need to put your figs down about 5-6 inches away from it. I've never lost a unit, but they usually scatter out of 2d6 range. This means that your odds aren't that great. Out of three one will probably miss and then you'll need a 6 to get a penetrating hit. But if you land where you want to the Land Raider is going to be as good as toast. Plus if they only manage to immobilise it, I give one or two of them chainfists so they can finish the job. I like them because they are great against slightly less hardcore vehicles. I've killed Fire Prisms, Dreadnaughts and Carnifexes with them as well.
Still, they attract a lot of firepower as soon as they land, so its best to coordinate your attacks so that your terminators can escape retribution (hiding behind the dead vehicle) or else everything else in your army is hitting at the same time.

I'd try using raptors or chosen as a guide, i find going second helps with raptors. you get close enough then turn 2 hopefully, bang, pop a tank!

place the first model just 1 inch from the hull of the target. The majority of scatter results towards the vehicle will send you over it, and still within 6". You'll only get pushed out of range completely with a roll of 12" directly away.

I think my combination of the 2 obliterators and the two units of 3 terminators makes a good tank killing squadron. rolling for reserves (deepstriking) with 3 units, most of the times you got 2 units coming together, either turn 2 or turn 3.
now that the obliterators got multimelta's the can kick as!
I like the idea of fielding one of my terminator units with a chainfist... this way i can also deepstrike near a carnifex and take him on...

That's actualy a rather good idea. The other thing you probably want to do is drop next a corner of the vehicle. That will reduce the percentage of the 360 degree arc that will take you onto the tank itself should you scatter, but doesn't change the range from it if you scatter away.
