Hello all,

I'm new to the forum (and the hobby) and thought I would post a Ravenwing army I just thought of. I have been building a balanced Dark Angels force based on the boxed army, but am more interested in fielding a Ravenwing/Deathwing army. Ravenwing in particular really appeals to me because of the mobility and blitzkrieg style of attack.

I fully expect this list to be ripped to shreds, but would appreciate an honest assessment from you veteran players. Thanks!

--HQ--
Sammael on Land speeder 205

--Troops--

Ravenwing attack squadron

6 bikes with Plasma gun and Apothecary
Attack bike with MM
Land Speeder with HB and AC
=400

Ravenwing attack squadron

6 bikes
Attack bike with HB
Land Speeder with HB and AC
=370

--Fast Attack--

3x Land Speeder with MM and Assault Cannon (each is seperate unit on force org chart)
=300

--Heavy Support--

Vindicator = 125

Predator with HB sponsons and pintle-mounted SB
=100

Total = 1500

Strategy:

This army avoids CC at all costs using range and mobility. It also contains a large number of armored units to confuse the opponents target priority.

The bikes and attack bikes are primarily anti-infantry with a dash of armor piercing potential and will mostly be used to capture objectives and bait enemy assault troops into the Vindicator and Predator field of fire.

The Land speeders will move together in a formation along a flank that forces the enemy to make target priority checks to avoid shooting against Sammael's awesome 14 armor. The two HB speeders and Sammy will shoot anti-infantry or light armor while the other 3 speeders make short work of heavy armor, HQ's and monstrous creatures.

The Vindicator and Predator are there to provide a mobile front line with the potential for serious anti-infantry fire, and the scariness to draw fire from the speeders.

Please let me know what you think. I know there are some other DA and Ravenwing players out there and would greatly appreciate your constructive criticism.

Hoot

in my experience 6 man bike squads don't work out so well. you pay an absurd amount for those squads, and they don't get that much better with extra bodies.

3 w/ meltas or flamers and a multi-melta attack bike.

of course i don't play pure ravenwing, so YMMV.

Hmm,

I had not thought of that. The only reason I had gone to 6 bikes was to acquire the two additional land speeders with assault cannons.

Keep in mind that you can field 6 man bike squads as 2 3 man combat squads, considering you probably don't want those bikes in melee you probably don't need the extra attack on the sergeant so 100 points for 3 more beats the 120 for a new squad.

And Land Speeders and Attack Bikes operate independently of the main squad anyway.

Sure if you want more attack bikes or more special weapons you need to break them into 3 man squads on force organisation, but there's no reason to do it just to have the versatility on the tabletop.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Sammael, good.

Rest, bad.

Gifts to the 40K player you are facing.

HB and AC will make your LS go poof, then you have nothing but bikers left.

Well,

I'm getting the hint that the DA Ravenwing and Deathwing aren't very good. Makes me wish I hadn't started with a DA army.

Are DA good for anything? Or are "standard" space marines better for all the customization?

I was more interested in Blood Angels anyways...

Nerf Marines are bad.

Once the UnNerfed are Nerfed, they too shall be bad.

Unless a big fan of those that be Nerfed, avoid them like the Jervis they are.

I have seen Ravenwing do horrible things to an opponent but the Plas/AC heavy lists tend to die to fast. The best way I can think of fielding the army is to do 2 full squads with 2 plas in each HB/AC on the speeder and MM on attack bike. Then take 2 units of 3 bikes with meltas and an attack bike with a heavy bolter.

Also take a Pedator Anihilator with Heavy Bolter Sponsoons. The rest kit it out with speeder. For Sammael I would prefer him to be on the Jetbike Being able to take multiple hits from a Dark/Bright Lance or even a las cannon has its advantages. Also he will gain the ability to turbo boost when the time is needed (He is not an IC so in Jetbike form he can capture objectives)
