Stalwart Ultramarine Tactical Marine

Madrid, Spain

Last week played a 1500 game using a Tigurius lead mech ultramarine list against a friend’s necron army. The game looked like been mine from the very beginning, as I got first turn a proceeded to blown away my friend’s monolith with the first lasscannon shot of the game (from my annihilator).

At one point in the game I faced the necron lord and two reduced necron warriors squads with two tactical squads (6 man, fist sarge and plasma squad plus their HB razorbacks) and the complete Tigurius command squad (apothecary, power weapon sarge, veteran, 2 melta guns, etc plus their rhino). Concentrated bolter, plasma, and razorback HB fire managed to erase the 6 members of the first squad. Then Tigurius and his squad fired and charged into the second warrior squad (8 warriors remaining), wiping all of them. At this point the only remaining necron on that quarter was the lord, and I massacred moved Tigurius and his squad to lock him (completely encircled) in hth.

We switch to my opponent turn and he proceeded to get the dies to resurrect his warriors.... I argued that he can't do that because there was not any other necron warrior unit to join the resurrected warriors with.... he stated that using the orb he can resurrect them anyway... I conceded in order to the game to proceed, and he got back 4 and 6 warriors..... that he stated tat were still two separate units... He then proceeded to veil out the lord and the unit with 6 warriors.... That changed completely the course of the game as this "new" unit proceeded to blown away or kill 3 of my reaming scoring units (a biker unit, the annihilator and a whirlwind) in the remaining turns..... He even claimed an objective with this unit in the last turn, giving him the win (it was an alpha game) with 2 loot counter to one....

I am not an expert in the necron codex (neither was my friend, as it was his second only game using his necron army) but I am almost sure he shouldn’t have been able to resurrect those warriors because....

- The 2 original units are blown off... they can't be re-created
- There was no other necron warrior unit close by to join the resurrected warriors with
- Ever using the orb, those warriors could not join the lord as he was totally encircled by marines locked to him in hth… So, there was no place to put the resurrected warriors close by.

So, to the dakka experts community.... Which was the right RAW answer to that situation? Could the warriors be resurrected? And if so, can they be counted as scoring units?

Thanks to all in advance

Into the fire of battle we go...

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

They should not have been ressurected if there was no "necron" unit within the WWB distance. Thats necron, not lord, not destroyer, immortal, flayer or anything but the troops entry. You gotta watch them necron players.

The Res Orb only counter acts the fact that you get no WWB roll if they were killed by insta death or by a CCW that ignores saves, it does nothing to help if the model is not within 6" of a model of the same type or 12" of a tomb spyder. Further, they have to join the closest unit of their type, and may only join a unit in close combat if they can be placed in coherency.

Your opponent was wrong. As deadshane stated, there must be a warrior within 6" (or spyder within 12" with warrios somewhere on the table) for them to get a WBB roll. And if they were eligible and did stand up, they would move to the nearest warrior unit, no matter where it is on the table.

I think Deadshane means "warrior" not "necron".
