Hello!
(Hopefully this is in the right section...)
I'm looking for some good skirmish level game ever since Rackham (for all intents and purposes) killed off Confrontation.
I'm like to get into an "alternate timeline" WWII game and right now, mostly due to the fact that I really like the miniatures, I'm leaning towards Darkson Designs' AE-WWII game.
Anyone try it out yet, and have a review?
Or, can you recommend another game in this genre?
I know that West Wind has one as well, and I think there's also a board game type of game in this setting too?
Thanks for your help!

Gear Kreig.
I've got friends who swear by it. It's alt world war II with mecha (though they just use it as a WWII game). You can use jsut about any WWII models and they have some neat wwII mecha designs.
Game play mechanics are the same as Heavvy Gear (not blitz).

Gear Kreig?
Never heard of it - I'll have to check it out.
Thanks!
(Still hoping for a review of Darkson's AE_WWII eventually though!)

I'll second Gear Krieg! Good for historical use as well as pulp sci-fi.

Dream Pod 9 has talked about doing a Blitz! version of Gear Krieg as well... The models have jsut been re-added to the store, in fact.
Over on the DP9 forums we fans (not DP9 staff) have discussed the idea of making it a FoW add-on.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

I've heard the personal shifts at DP9 may play against that. THe strongest proponents of blitz aren't with the company anymore from what I heard.
And please tell me they didn't actually use a "!" after the blitz logo.

The company's only real product at the moment is Blitz, so the meager staff (I think it's something like three people now) had better be interested... The only recent staff change is the sculptor, Phil, moved from full-time to freelance due to some unspecified disagreements.
I think the exclamation point is, indeed, part of the name.

Kinda sad really. Like watching GoO go down in the last couple of years. Product lines dropping, support dropping, and people leaving. Hopefully someone capable will pick up Silcore from the burnt out ruins, since it's a good system.
Ach well I look forward to Silcore as produced by white wolf.

The basic 'feel' I get is that the current DP9 wish they were the DP9 of old. They know they aren't, however, and have to pick and choose support. At least right now, they feel a miniatures wargame is more profitable than a full RPG line.
They do seem to be trying to "properly" treat the properties. They've even said they want to do the end of the storyline, although not in the old format.

Secrets of the Third Reich
Battleground Weird War II
Gear Krieg is 15mm, which is great if you've got FOW stuff, bad if you were hoping for 28mm
Darkson has their quickstart AE-WWII rules here. I haven't seen a review, but check out Zac/Pixelgeek's work at Tabletop Gaming News: he's been pretty good about promoting that game.
If you can find a copy, '1999' had a Weird War II feel to it.
Frankly, AT-43 evokes a Weird War II feel (and was based at least in part on Paolo Palente's "Dust" WWWII material).
If you're willing to branch out and do a little work, No Limits and Chain Reaction II, both free 'generic' sci-fi systems would, I'm sure, give you enough rules to figure out a Weird War II thing yourself.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.
I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |
