Ok, so I've just started playing fantasy 6 monthes ago. I play dwarfs and my mate plays skaven and has just started orks. The last couple games we played I thrashed him since after 13 yrs of 40k I'm just better at making nasty lists. Also he's chosen 2 gribbly armies. Not to diminish rats or gobbos, stunties just seem to do quite well against gribblies.
My friend decided to challenge me to a game against his skaven this weekend using the orc book he just bought and I haven't seen. Now I'm not out to humiliate him, just to prove that its not necessarilly dwarfs that are the problem. I want to show him that spending countless hours forming different lists can be very useful and also hope to show him some of the meaner units in his new book.
He's a bit of a purist usually only using units he has models for. I've told him that this is nice in theory, but its not likely he'll buy good/great units after just starting a new army. Particularly since he has 2 more fantasy games under his belt than I (12). It can also make friendly games pretty bland and predictable until both players have a good 2000+ pts or so.
This list is hardly perfect since I've had the book for all of 2 hrs. The boars, boar boss, chariot boss and wagons are the real shock element and should bleed/wipe out any of the more dangerous ratty units. The boars will wait to the second round of cc after a charge to use the banner. The spears wail on any rat ogres, warp light bulbs and other bits in sight while drawing fire from the boys. The ring is one the meanest pieces of kit I've seen in fantasy. I plan to use it to wound his heros and anything pricey.
On a small side note I was wondering if the boar riders get +1 attack for having a spear and choppa? The mini rule book I have doesn't say if it is one or two handed. Do all cavalry require one hand to hold the reigns and thus may only benefit from one weapon per turn? I could also not find anywhere in the rules that suggests this and with only skaven vs dwarfs so far cavalry hasn't come up. Thanks for opinions and/or advice.
