Hi all, just a heads up that Richmond GW London is closing down 5th January(tomorrow) and is having a sale. Yes thats right its got to be a first in 10 years. Half price on black library. 2 blisters for the price of 1. Also alot of boxed sets at half price or less!
No brand new stuff on sale though.

Oh. Richmond London. I got excited, as it looks like I might be in Richmond, Maryland, USA tomorrow.

Is it just me or are a lot of stores closing lately?

freaked me out, as I'm going to the Richmond BC store next week!

Apparently they are closing down because there are too many Richmond GW stores...

Well I just got back and picked up a daemonhost and plague marine captain. They had loads of sisters, inquistorial stuff and guard stuff. The tyranids and orks went very early apparently. They had some space marines but nothing too unusual just loose plastic sprues and a couple of blisters. Loads of WHFB stuff and some LOTR too. There was a huge amount of older things (ancient codexes from 3rd edition, battle for five armies, old out of production models, old WDs, a million old eldar guardian box sets). Nothing too good or even new was on sale when I was there but there was some upstream manager-type watching things who would not confirm if there would be a sale on the rest of the store's stock or not (though it was not thought to be likely). The black library stuff was all half price but I got so much of it for xmas that there was nothing I really wanted from there just yet plus it can be bought fairly cheaply elsewhere anyway. They were handing out raffle tickets to win the store's painted minis, gaming tables, etc and someone had already made off with a massive apocalypse promo board when I got there.

All in all it was just like the sales of old except there was not really any nice deal on the box sets. I was ready to pick up BfsP and maybe Moria too but no deals there so I didnt bother. I did get a bit nostalgic at seeing all the old miniatures, old white dwarfs and having Nirvana blasting over the store's speakers, it felt just like the last sale I went to back in the days of 2nd edition 40k.

I took a few pics too so that you can see that a GW somewhere actually had a sale! Any other dakka folk make it there?

gak, why the hell did i not check dakka earliar, i live 10 min away but am stuck at work, Oh well money saved i guess

It is not just you.

GW Chiswick/Hammersmith closed down recently. For non-Londoners, Richmond and Hammersmith are fairly near to each other. It looks like GW are rationalising their UK retail network.

Richmond was my local store for the past 12 years till I moved to Ealing (which is fairly nearby.)

Yeah there is certainly no shortage of GWs in the area:
GWs around the kingston GW All of those within 12 miles.

Wow! That is quite a density of stores!

No wonder they dont understand the US market. We are so spread out over here.

But wait, Hammersmith closed? That sucks, that store rocked. I lived in London for a year and worked in the Brent Cross store and did a couple shifts over in Hammersmith. Nice place right on the high street and very laid back. I liked it. Not as good as Brent Cross, of course...

When I lived in DC the Springfield Mall one closed and then reopened in a strip mall down the road. Even then it was only open a few days a week.

So they're shifting their US resources too.

There's still one in Springfield mall. Fair City mall was a strip, but I know that one closed....

They closed up one of the NYC stores some weeks ago.

I was actually upset when they closed the Hammersmith one down. It was a good store with some good staff, but they all left way before it shut down.

Wow Scottywan82, somebody else out there knows about the Fair City Mall store. That brings back all kinds of early gaming memories. I remember being crushed when they closed doors and I had to start driving to Potomac Mills. As for the Richmond closing, those kind of sales are always good times, even if you don't get anything for a song. Yeah the good stuff goes early, but sometimes it's worth it just to get a painted mini you've seen in the display case for years.

I've been to the Potomac Mills store once or twice (It's not at all convenient to me, though... I'm closer to the Glenn Bernie HQ or the Annapolis store but event those aren't "easy." It's nice seeing a game store in a 'real' mall as opposed to the usual stores hidden away in older strip malls or even in light industrial areas.

Had fun at Potomac Mills watching a guy completely trash his friend. They were using the guy's new Chaos against his old Tyranids and the friend (playing the Tyranids) was at a ridiculous disadvantage because he just didn't know the Tyranid rules at all. I gave him some advice since I'd rather see what was likely his first time playing be a fun experience.

Actually Richmond VA does have a GW store. I think it's been open for 3 years or so now..

The GW in Springfield actually left the mall 6 or so months ago and is a strip mall across the I-95 about 6 mins away. The mall was asking too much for rent and the floor space was just way to small for what was piling in that place every week.
