I did some searches and couldn't find answers for these few questions. I wondered what the consensus was here on YMDC.

1.Can you take any of the special characters such as Shrike or Tigurius in a DIY army? If I create my own chapter and my own paint scheme, am I allowed to use the special characters rules (and call them some other name) as long as the point limit allows it? What if I use traits in my DIY Army? Can I have an army that takes the 'Cleanse and Purify' Trait and also includes Tigurius' twin brother?

2.A friend told me that if you take the 'Purity above all trait' (Vet and Tac squad Veteran Sergeants can be apothecaries for +25 points) you can upgrade the Sergeant to an Apothecary just like in a command squad. He said that you don't have to pay 15 points to give him terminator honors if you don't want to, because there are just sergeants, and sergeants w/ terminator honors. Is this correct? If I take the above trait, is this squad legal: 140pts - 6 man las/plas w/ sergeant as an apothecary.

3.This applies mostly to the Black templars, but has some cross applicability to Space Marines. In the Black Templar codex, the Chapter Banner is listed with the little 'T' that means models in terminator armor can select it. How exactly is this done? Can the Sergeant in a terminator command Squad (that can select items from the Armoury) take the Chapter Banner for 25 points? I don't see any other way for a terminator to take the Chapter Banner, because terminator armor is not allowed to single wound models in the black templar codex. What about a Reclusiam Terminator command squad, can it take a Holy Relic? How would this be done?

ps. My group tends to go by whatever the Adepticon FAQ says. These questions aren't addressed there, but if anyone knows how they would rule, I'd be curious to hear about it.

Thanks

In casual games, sure. In tournament games (that allow special characters, obv), I would say not. OTOH, I don't have the codex in front of me; in those special character descriptions does it say that they must be fielded as part of a force with X and Y Traits?

Unfortunately, no. Note the term "Veteran Sergeant" - this is GW speak for a Sergeant with Terminator Honours (see the Term Honours description in the Wargear Section, IIRC). So you have to give the Sarge Term Honours, then pay +25 points make him an Apothecary, exactly like the one in the HQ Squad.

This one I have no idea about, sorry.

Actually, in the HQ command squad, you just pay 25 points to upgrade a member into a specialist as an apothecary. You are given the option of adding terminator honors if you like, but they are not required as far as I can see.

1. Each character can only be used in a army from their chapter, however, ruleswise, the only thing that deffines a chapter is its traits, not its fluff or how its painted. You can freely use the characters in you DIY chapter as long as you only use the traites of their chapter.

2. The Command squad Apothacary and the PAA Apothacary aren't upgraded the same way. the PAA rules say that its an upgrade to the Veteren Sergeant, which means you first have to make the Sergeant a Veteren by buying him the TH.

3. Why they left the T on the Banner in the BT codex I don't know, but its presence doesn't give permision for anyone other then a standard barer to take it.

This is not entirely true. The only thing that ACTUALLY defines a Chapter is the player. The traits listed are simply the only traits you MAY use for that chapter, IF you dcide to use traits at all. I.E. You may take Shrike in an RG army, either using the traits listed, or using none at all. You may ALSO take Shrike in a "Successor Chapter", citing the "Counts As" rules; In this case "Counting As" Raven Guard(Again using traits, or none at all.) You may NOT take Shrike in an Imperial Fists army, NOR a D.I.Y. Chapter using traits other than those listed for Raven Guard.

While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Lordhat is correct. Please read page 45 of the codex under the heading "Chapters of Legend".
