G'day everyone, my first post here at dakka dakka and my first IG list.

I have been playing eldar now for a while and am finally ready to ditch the space faries and play a real army, with some heavy fire power! I have already started converting and painting some Vostroyans and will try to post some pics soon. I basically wanted horses, artillery and tanks all together.

The couple of autocannon/lascannons that I have finished have been given wheels etc to make them look like standard artillery and a couple are being pulled by horses, I have also done a couple of vostroyan rough riders (based on the cossaks who fought the reds). Anyway enough about the hobby side, that is not why I am posting (just wanted to give you all some background).

This list is currently at 1268 points and I wanted to take it to 1500. I would appreciate any recommendation you have on what to include but also any improvements could be made to the current list. My prime concern is the lack of ablative wounds on those lascannons! The current plan is to keep the gun squads right at the back of the board, where their 48" range will keep them somewhat safe from return fire (hardy any any infantry guns have over 36" range) but I am not averse to adding in some regular squads to protect them.

Any way open season, say whatever you think! Please note this list is still entirely theoretical so I am happy to change anything. All recommendations welcome.

Do you have the points total right for your troops? 346 seems a bit much for 2 units of 6 storm troopers with 2 plasma guns.

There is not much you can do to protect the fire support squads. Best you can hope to do is get them into cover. It might be possible to selectively block opponents LOS using your LR tanks and/or by adding Hell Hounds/Chimeras.

Yeh sorry, not thinking. Both the squads of Grenadiers are in Chimeras. I will update my post.

I see two main options for you, another grenadier squad (with melta this time) and another rough rider squad (since you seem to love the models and fluff, although in reality this is probably overkill) OR a hellhound and another autocannon team.

If you don't want the extra rough rider team from the first option, you could just use the extra points to buy upgrades for the rest of your force eg sponsoons on the russes, vet sarges on the rr etc

Sorry dude, don't know what I was thinking! You have 232pts left, 3 elite slots and 2 doctrine points! that's the magic combination, you have just unlocked the IG special prize! the one that keeps IG armies everywhere from being laughed out of competitive game play! I don't think you will need any further suggestions, so without further ado, try this...

Okey dokey, let's see...... As you mention, you're a bit low on bodies. I do like Doonel's suggestion re Drop Troops and Vets, although I tend to go with meltas on the vets instead of plasma. To hit both of these points, here's what I would do. Drop one of the AT squads, that gives you another 110 points. Add in an Infantry Platoon, JO with 4 x plasma guns (Drop Troops) and 2 x IG squads each with a lascannon. This gives you more bodies, only one less lascannon and the fun fun Deep Striking plasma gun squad. That takes 250 points and leaves enough for one squad of vets with meltas for anti-armor work.
For the remaining points, couple of possibilities, but both require you to find a few more points. HB sponsons on the Leman Russ MBTs for anti-horde work; Honorifica for your HQ JO (Keeping a squad from running is almost as good as having more squads).
You could get the points for either option by changing the Fire Support squad to 2 x Heavy Bolters and 1 x Autocannon or by decreasing the size on the Grenadiers. Another thought is to change out the mortar (best used en masse) for another Heavy Bolter or Autocannon. Park the HQ in terrain near the middle of your firebase witht he JO and standard BEHIND the area terrain so that they cannot be casualties. That way you can still shoot the heavy while protecting the leadership.

When you're ready to bump this to 1750 or more, add in another squad or two of vets and another line squad in the platoon. Or one of my favorites, some sentinels. Multilaser/Hunter-Killer combo actually works fairly well for the points cost. But they WILL die.
