I think this counts as news.
Jean Bey has declared on the Confrontation forum that the metal models will remain in limited production and it will be possible to purchase them through FFG.
They won't come with the old cards though, and no word on whether new models will continue to be released (which looks doubtful).
edited to add what Jean Bey said:
"All the RACKHAM products is and will be available via FFG for all English speaking country, new releases products for AT-43, Confrontation the Age of the Rag'Narok and the existing metal range.
Regarding the metal miniatures: we have some stocks, we have the moulds, we can continue casting our range, we can create our masters and our metal moulds if needed. So metal minis will remain available without C3 stats cards, but remain available. What I told previously it's simply that we will no more produce huge production quantity as before.
If some metal miniatures aren't available, it's simply because we need to do a new casting mould or it was a limited edition.
Thank you,
Jean."

Does that mean they'll be direct only, or will stores offer
them as well? A lot of stores felt burned by their
Confrontation inventories.

sorry I went hunting for what was actually said and added it to the first post.
In answer to your question, it looks as if stores will be able to order them from FFG if they wish. I'm not sure how aware of this FFG are though.

At first this sounded like a carrot to the old fan base, but really, after thinking about it for a bit, is it really?
I'm still waiting for Rackham to come out with a skirmish ruleset, but I imagine that is years down the road.
And if they're still around then to do it...

Man, i hope they still are. Quality in sculpting has been advanced lightyears by their stuff. I just hope they survive AT-43.

What they need to do is just call a Mulligan and revert away from their "Age of Ragnarok" ruleset and go back to the good old skirmish conflicts the game was.
As for the metal minis, I hope they stay available, I really do. I LOVE Rackham minis. They were steps ahead of everyone else and pushed GW to start adding MUCH mroe detail to their figures.
The industry needs those models to stay in production, limited or not.

Or even make two games. One skirmish with metal minis, while the Ragnarok uses plastics and is of bigger scale. Then make it so that you can use minis in either game and wa la!

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. |

Sounds good to me, Toreador.
Although I don't think they'll do it, except as a last ditch effort/cash grab on the way out as I really think that R's plan now is to "force" (as much as any company can force it's customer base to do anything) all players interested in their game/universe/etc. to adopt the 'new way' and buy as many new miniatures as possible.
The "metal's aren't dead" thing is a nice try at some good PR, but that's about it...

Yeah, at this point they have played their cards. It would have been so much better to do it the way I said above. I mean, as much as people gripe about GW, what Rakham did is not just a slap in the face, but a boot to the head.
I don't really mind the AT-43 thing. I mean, it was set up as a prepaint plastic game from the start. It doesn't just get rid of everything before it. I might disagree with the whole prepaint thing, but I don't have much care beyond that. To invalidate a whole game and the figs to do a reboot really is a kick in the groin. The main reason Confrontation was popular around here (other than the figs) was that it was a small scale skirmish fantasy game. No one played Ragnarok as it was on the scale of WHFB, and we already play a large scale fantasy game. It fit a niche.
I guess in a way with prepaints it fits a new niche, but what about all these people who just bought 3.0 and Dogs of War?
It could have been done a lot better. Sadly, I don't think the shops around here are now going to stock anything related as they have even been burnt on the stock they have. At-43 is around, but most shops are very gun shy now.
